The kid in front of me is big. I mean, someone could have told me he was a teacher who just liked to wear the uniform and I wouldn't have thought twice. He had that model sparkle about him that left me both in awe and in fear.
He smirks as I look up at him, wide-eyed. Until five seconds ago, I'd been stressing about whether I'd make it on time to the first assembly, but now I'm worried about whether I'll make it to my 16th birthday. I'd almost walked into him as I turned down a hallway leading towards the main hall, my mind still dazed from seeing Eli. I got the feeling that this guy was waiting for late-comers like me just so he could bully them.
"H-hi..." when he says nothing I continue, aware that my voice was sounding strangely high-pitched, "could you-I mean- yunno, if you could just see to letting me past that would be..." My voice fades out as the guy leans in towards me, running a hand through his blonde hair,
"Would be what?" His breath stinks of cigarettes.
"...Nice?" I squeak.
The guy chuckles, "unfortunately for you, I'm not a nice person." My stomach flips,
"Um... okay, I'll just... um... go... Another way."
"There isn't another way to the hall."
"Right... well..."
"Well?"
I don't know! What the hell do you want me to say?! "I'll Just... go."
I turn around but just as I'm about to leave, the guy catches my elbow. I freeze, praying that a teacher would stick their head out of the hall and save me. He's so close i can feel his breath against my ear. my hearts thumps.
"You're last school... was it co-ed?" His voice is low, gruff and intimidating.
"Yeah..." I breathe.
"There aren't any girls here. But," he sighs dramatically, "we make do with what we've got..." I pull away out of his grip, turning around to look at him.
He smiles wolfishly, "A sweet little lamb like you could easily get eaten."
I open my mouth then close it again, not knowing what I should say. He seems satisfied and walks away. I stand there in shock, what the hell was that?!
A second later my prayer is answered, a conversation too late, and a teacher shouts at me to hurry up and come into the hall. If there is a god, he must have a sick sense of humour.
