"What right does that guy have that means he can just go around in his big fancy car, picking people up and dragging them off somewhere?" Drake fumes, Corey and me sharing a look.
"He didn't just just 'drag' me off somewhere."
"Well he might as well have."
I roll my eyes, not even bothering to reply. I'd given up on trying to persuade Drake that I didn't need a body guard and I'd accepted his presence on the walks home. I sort of enjoy his company anyway... Especially since Eli has barely contacted me once since last week at the park. Corey quickly realised the link between my shitty mood and going to glaring at the mention of Eli's name from not being able to shut up about him. So anyways, he's coming round to save me from another evening of self-pity.
"You know what I should do?"
"Why do you even bother asking?" I grumble, knowing full well that he was about to tell me anyway.
"I should go and kick the guys head in." Both me and Corey stare at him in shock,
"Er, Drake?" Corey taps his arm hesitantly, "D'you have any idea who that guy really is?"
I raise an eyebrow, directing my question at Corey, "Do you?"
"I always know." He shrugs. How the hell would he know? It's not like Eli goes around advertising the fact that his family are run an organised crime syndicate.
"Know what?" It's strange, how Drake can have these ordinary conversations with me and my friends now.
"The guy's mafia."
"Mafia?!" Drake excalims at exactly the moment I hiss Corey's name, jabbing him in the arm with my elbow. Oh shit. I'm never going to hear the end of this. "You knew that and yet you still go have your little dates with him?"
"First- they're not dates. Second- I didn't know and even if I did, I still would've gone with him." I snap, completely not in the mood for Drake's opinions. "And besides, what does it matter to you?" Suddenly his touch is on my earring and I slap his hand away, feeling that resentment rise like a volcanoe in my stomach. He half smirks and I glare at him. Ofcourse I know what it means- it means whatever's my business is his.
Corey and me talk about random things until we arrive at my house, ignoring Drake. I let Corey inside but turn around when I hear Drake call my name.
"Yeah?"
He's still waiting at the gate, hands shoved in his pockets. "Don't see him again."
I sigh, shrugging, "I can't just do that... It's not that easy." I say it softly, looking at the gravel path so I don't have to look him in the eye.
"It is that easy, you're just looking for some excuse as to why you're gonna see him again."
"Maybe you're right." Ugh. I just don't know what he wants me to say. When I look up he's gone. I don't understand him... No matter how hard I try, I can't predict what he's feeling or what he's going to say or do next.
I go back into the house, Corey watching me from the hallway. I shrug and he smiles gently. The house is pretty quiet, telling me that none of my family was home, which is probably a good thing.
I lead him upstairs, dumping my bag in my room, gesturing for him to do the same. There's litereally nothing to do in my room so I take him to Finn's, guessing that he wouldn't care if I used his flatscreen and playstation while he was out. Corey's eyes widen as he runs his eyes over the stacks of games piled under the TV, whistling in appreciation.
"Your brother has like... everything. He won't mind if we have a go will he?"
I shake my head and he grins, "Let's start with this!"
* * *
"NO!" Corey shouts, barely an inch from the screen. I laugh in triumph as his character falls awkwardly to the ground. Corey glares and I watch as my character shoots his gun continuously as he spins and jumps about in slow motion, (for the first time) actually shooting something. Corey flops forward and facepalms the carpet.
"Not fair." He grumbles. I laugh again, pleased that I'd actually won a game. A bag comes flying through the door, Corey yelling and sitting up.
"Hey Finn. Good game?" I hear a tired reply of 'yeah' as the shower starts running in the room next to us.
"Finn?" Corey mutters, looking towards the ceiling , "Oh... Finn."
"You know him?" Stupid question.
"I know of him." he corrects. "I didn't know you're brother's the captain of the football team and head of every class at the best school in the area."
I roll my eyes. Just what I need, another member of the Finn Mathews fan club. As soon as the shower shuts off, Corey decides he needs a drink and dissappears out of the room. Subtle, Corey.
Corey (Woo! Thought I'd shake things up a little ^ ^)
I look up from the floor at whoever'd just walked backwards into me, knocking me to the ground at the top of the stairs with a soft thump. It's a guy, near black hair wet from the shower and a towel around his waist. My heart skips a beat, if I'd known Grey's brother looked like this I would've come round a lot sooner. Oh god, that sounded mean-
"Jeez, sorry about that." I take his offered hand, pulling me to my feet. I smile, thanking him with a grin on my face that was pointless trying to hide.
"I'm Corey, Grey's friend."
"Sure, yeah. Finn." He waves, returning my smile smile, "The older brother." Brother. I remind myself, this is Grey's brother. I shouldn't fall for him on principal.
"Ah,the top of his class, sports star?"
"Someone been talking about me?"
I nod, I have a bad habit of collecting rumors. It's just what I do.
"And do I live up to what you've heard?" I blink slowly, hearing that little tone of flirtation in his voice. He does a half smile, crossing his arms across his toned chest.
"Not even close." He pouts and I let out a laugh. Blatant lie right there. Ofcourse the guy lives up to the rumors, he's bloody gorgeous and half-naked.
"Maybe I could prove my self?" I gape up at him, a blush spreading over my whole body.
There's a creak on the floorboards and we both jump, turning to the source. Grey stands in the doorway of Finn's room, frozen in mid step. He grins sheepishly, running a hand through his hair in this completely fake innocent way.
"Hey guys. I was just... Um... Looking at the... door?" Real smooth, Grey. I can't help laugh at the awkwardness the guy had managed to create.
"Relax, Grey. Nothing's going on over here." I say.
"Oh wasn't it?" If it's even possible, I blush even more at Finn's words. Grey groans,
"Big bro, at least try not to seduce my best friend."
"Only if you tell him to stop being so cute."
"Finn!"
Finn only chuckles, winking at me.
Suddenly the front door slams and Finn curses under his breath. Grey gasps, rushing to look over the banister "Dad?" He calls out, down the dark stairwell. I hold my breath without even realising it, freezing as to not make a noise. I don't even know why I'm scared. Maybe it's the shared look on the brother's faces, the one that is obviously crapping itself. After a moment of heavy silence Grey speaks,
"You think he was listening?" Finn doesn't reply but by the look on his face, I'm guessing he thought he was. And their reaction told me that wasn't exactly a good thing.
A/N
