Chapter 19: Picture Perfect

"Bye. Be careful." Rin bid her goodbye. Sesshomaru dropped her at the orphanage. "I will." He promised, kissing her forehead.

Rin waited for his car to be entirely out of sight before she went into the school entrance door. Today's a weekday so she'd be teaching gradeschoolers.

As she went through sorting her stuff before going into one of her classes, a fellow teacher handed her a set of invitation for the annual school fair.

She glanced down at her ticket. Now she needed to think of a way to tell Sesshomaru. But that would have to wait. Snotty kids are waiting for her to start the class.

When she got home, she saw the clutter of paperwork and documents in his desk. "I guess now's not a good time to tell him."

"Tell me what?"

She almost jumped when Sesshomaru suddenly appeared behind her with a cup of coffee in one hand. And he was wearing his pair of reading glasses. He looked smart, sexy smart.

"Uh-h. There's this thing at school." She stuttered. Its so embarrassing, being caught ogling him.

Rin was fidling with what appeared to be a flier. He placed his coffee down. He needed both arms to do this. Hug her.

Sesshomaru needed time for his work. He isn't just running a single store. He runs a whole company and manages a thousand employees. He knew that. He dropped his gaze at Rin still imprisoned in his tight embrace. He couldn't afford distractions. But he welcomed this little distraction.

"I'll go." And that was all he needed to see her face lit up.

Irritation flared as he slumped against the wall and flipped mindlessly through the song selection at the retro table-top jukebox, feeling very much like a third wheel. His reaction was childish and irrational, he knew that, and he had no ill will toward this little guy, Kota. But Sesshomaru just wanted Rin all to himself.

The first activity was singing. The boy had angelic voice. This would be a piece of cake. Students whose parents couldnt attend are taken in by teachers and their respective guests. So he and Rin would be this little guy's parents for the day.

The kid so much so reminded him of his first meeting with his then adorable, younger- oh right, his first meeting with the cute monstrosity that was the kid Inuyasha.

"Are you Ms. Rin's boyfriend?" Kota asked. Sesshomaru raised and eyebrow. Amusement clear in his golden pools.

"I'm going to grow up fast so I can marry her." That earned a hearty laugh from Rin.

"Good luck with that brat."

And that was the start of mayhem. They lost the relay. The students started the race to give a fair start. At the next stop were the fathers and substitutes waiting for the kids. But Kota refused to hand Sesshomaru the baton.

The both of them were vying for her attention. Its exasperating. Rin was now giving them both the steely glare.

"Hey champ, how 'bout we work together and bring home the bacon?"

The kid nodded enthusiastically and gave Sesshomaru a highfive.

The pair managed to win a couple of rounds on the games. On some they'd land second place since they still manage to insert bickering as the other teams fight their way to the finish.

As the points were tallied, Rin nervously bit off her nails. As much as simply enjoying this time spent with him, it would be the icing to the cake if they won this too.

She looked around. Happy faces everywhere. Right here too. She glanced up to see Sesshomaru grinning at her. They were a family. Even just for one day. She missedthe feel of this. Sesshomaru did too. In as little as she knew regarding his family, she knew he too had missed on his childhood. And she was glad she could see that genuine smile on his face. He was happy. And that made her happy too.

"Oh god! We won!" Rin exclaimed as the officials' announcement of the winners finally sinked in.

Kota broke into fits of giggles as Sesshomaru muttered colorful words since Kota had been pulling his silver mane. He was seated atop Sesshomaru's shoulders as he held the boy's feet securely. Rin found herself laughing beside him. The background filled with cheers and conffeti as others snapped away with their cameras.

Rin run her fingers at the same scene enclosed in a wooden frame ontop the shelf. A coworker back at the orphanage managed to jovially snap a shot of her and Sesshomaru during the festivities.

Things can't go any more better than this.

Only she didn't know the bubble would burst too soon.
