Chapter 25: Spare the rod. Spoil the child.

Ever heard of 'helicopter parents'? Yeah, the one that hovers around you like a bee or a fly or something. Checking out every little thing you do. Well, Sesshomaru's been one since the fever incident. It's starting to annoy the shit out of Rin now. Though she can't say she doesn't like the attention and it's not like he's not super cute when he does so. I mean, he looked like a white furry puppy following her around all day. Only, he leans more towards the sexy side of things.

But on a serious note, she hates making him worry all the time. He's already got his hands full, what with the added responsibilities managing Taisho Enterprises brought him. She used to think 'wow, he's really busy' just with his own company back then. Now that she sees him like this, ever since he took over as OIC for his father, she cant help but think, he had more freedom then.

Dont overdo yourself. Complain when you're tired. Or sleep is more important.

He's one to talk. Practice what you preach! But she can't say that to his face can't she?

She can't help but feel like an excess baggage. I cant keep standing on his way.

"Hey, Sesshomaru, you dont have to drive me to work today." She's not entirely sure how he'd take this but she already made up her mind. "Actually, you don't have to drive me at all."

He's seated at the living room typing away at his laptop, but when the clicking sound stop, she's sure he heard every word of it.

She was standing half-way through the dining and living room waiting anxiously for his thoughts. He took off his glasses and raised his head to meet her eyes.

"Did we have a fight or something?"

Not exactly the response she anticipated.

"What? No. It's not that. I just thought, you really don't have to go out of your way for me. You're already tired as it is. I can always commute or -"

"No."

"Excuse me?" He just cut her off. And what does he mean by no?

"The answer's no."

And he went back to whatever he was doing just like that.

"You didnt actually hear me out. You just shut me down again."

"You were not exactly asking me were you?" He dead-panned.

"Be reasonable!" She has to bring her foot down on this. Ok, she's being a brat, but he should at least consider her feelings too.

"We are not fighting over this." Was his response.

He's made up his mind too. This is going nowhere. She stomped off but was only able to take a few steps. Sesshomaru held her in a tight embrace.

"No," he started again. He held her tighter when she tried to move. "The few minutes with you in the car is the only time I could be entirely alone with you. Im busy with work. So dont take that away too."

The way he hugged her was pleading. She could feel her resolve crumbling. What else can she do? He's always so optimistic. She couldn't look at it that way. All this while, he treasured those silent everyday drive.

"I, I-im just scared. I dont want to become selfish. I might not stop wanting attention. I might not want to stop wanting you."

"Then let me spoil you."

Is it really ok for me to monopolize you? Somehow she couldnt shake of that unwanted feeling in the pit of her stomach.

"You know, you really live up to your name."

He turned her to face him. "And why is that?"

"You're a ruthless business man." She said smiling. "And you don't let me win, much less score in an argument." She pouted after, for added effects.

He let out a chuckle. If only she knew, that when it comes to her, he's always on the losing side. But let's not tell her that.

"Now that we have that behind us." He dragged the words as he leaned down to kiss her neck. "How about we make up?"

"N-No. Don't think you'd get away j-just because you said so-something inarguably sweet li-like t-hat." She stuttered out, flustered as she couldn't help but react to his sensual ministrations.

He wasted not another minute as he captured her lips. And when she kissed him back, "I already did." He cockily smirked.

"Im sure as hell I told Kanna not to divuldge too much information." Sesshomaru feigned irritation. He's currently driving Rin to work. And it seemed she found out he skips lunch like every-single-freaking-time.

"I asked her to."

"You two are ganging up on me. Again."

"Who said not to overdo themselves?"

He just sighed. For once he has nothing cheeky to say.

"And eat the bentos!"

"Yes mom!" He advertently used the word just to irritate her.

"Im serious!"

"Ok, stop nagging me, wife!"

She stuck her tongue out. "I wouldn't want to have such a doting husband either."

The hammer hit the nail on the head. Rin could be obtuse too.

She said it jokingly but he fell silent after that.

Akward.

She stepped on a red line. She wanted to berate herself. Sometimes she could really use some tact. Nothing sends a man off faster running towards the hill than that of the mention of his own marriage.

Well, the topic was brought up a few times, what with Kagura's wedding fast approaching. But this was Kagura's we are talking about. So it's entirely different.

Did it ever cross his mind too? Settling down, I mean. She couldn't help but look his way. W-with me?

Sessomaru had been persistent , quite so, in several occassions, in wanting to see her try out the her dress for Kagura's upcoming wedding.

Sesshomaru chose Rin's dress himself if what the bride-to-be said was true. He said he's tired of just imagining her in it, so he wanted to see it for himself. No matter how smoldering the looks he gave her, she keeps turning him down everytime, because she's just too embarassed. Besides, she's still got a lot of working out to do, before she rocks that pretty little number. Anyways, this dilemma of hers is for another time to discuss.

Come to think of it, they've never hardly mentioned the topic of settling down. It just never crossed her mind before. She's never had a serious relationship before until now. She's dated and had a boyfriend but it was nothing really serious. Besides, that was when she was still a teenager. Being an adult, makes you see things diffrently.

When they reached the orphanage, she put on her usual face and said her goodbye. He acted like his usual self too so she was relieved. He kissed her lovingly on the cheeks.

"Goodluck Tiny!" He broke the ice first. That made her smile.

"How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that..."

"But you hated wife~y."

"Sesshomaru!" She swung her bag to hit him. "Get back here!"

He just playfully dodged her and went off laughing.

But really, 'doting husband'? Well, she just have to get used to that, he thought.
