The next thing I knew, I was in a jail cell, but not a real jail cell, a fake one from the fair. For the first few minutes I had been pleading to get out, but the security guard kept strictly saying "No!", so I decided to shut my mouth, until eventually Cleo came in the door with another strong security guard. "Cleo!" I gasped.
"Don't worry Zoe, I'm here to get you out" she said, reassuringly. "I don't think so" said one of the security guards. "Come on, how long are you gonna keep her here?" Cleo asked. "Until the fair is over, then she shall be released". Now I really felt like a jailberg. I took a deep breath. The security guards left, with me still locked up, but at least I had Cleo to keep me company. "You know you've really done it this time, haven't you Zoe?" she said, "What on earth were you thinking? I took another deep breath, "Oh, I don't know. I just wanna go home now" I said, "I'm sorry I got you into this, Cleo". "It's okay, don't worry about it" she said, kindly. Best friends are so forgiving. An hour or so past and I was still locked up. I wasn't sure how long the fair was going to be, but I wanted to get out. At one point, the security guard that chased me down, came back in and I hesitated to ask "Is there any way I can be released before the fair is over?" He looked at me with those hard, scary eyes and said "No, now keep quiet, miss. By the way, I never got a name from you. ID, please". I pulled out my school ID card from my pocket and handed it to him through the bars. It was last year's photo, from when I had braces and some acne, but it was ID.
He studied it hard. "Zoe Reid?" he asked. Yes that's my last name and my middle name is April. "Yes sir" I replied. "Daughter of Karen Reid?" That was my mom's name, but how did he know that?
"Um, yes" I said, puzzled. "I used to know Karen, she was a fine young lady, we were quite good friends in high school, how is she doing these days?" I was still confused, "Fine, I guess". There was a long pause.
Then the guard finally spoke, "You can go to the fair" he said. I was in shock. "Really?! But why?" "You seem like a nice kid" he said, "Your mother must be real proud to have such a nice daughter". "Gee, thanks" I said as he unlocked the cell. "Don't mention it and tell your mother I said hi".
"I will" I said, "Let's go, Cleo". She had fallen asleep, waiting for me, so I snapped my fingers in her face and she woke up, "Okay, okay I'm coming!"
I laughed a little as we walked out the door. "Take care!",said the security guard. "Bye!" I shouted back. "He actually seems really nice" I told Cleo. "I still don't think it was fair that he let you go, but that doesn't matter. Look! There's Dustin and Tabitha!" She said, pointing at them. "Perfect! I'll go see if I can get a better view of them" I said, excitedly. "Awesome, you do that and if you'll excuse me, I'm going to look for some guys to hang out with" she said, walking away. "Good luck then". She was already gone in a blink of an eye. That girl is boy crazy, I thought.
