And so, I set off to search for Tabitha. At first, I had no idea where to look. I went to the park first, the park was pretty big, so I looked there for a while, she wasn't there. Then I looked behind the school, again, nothing.
It had to be at least two and a half hours of me going in circles, looking for that girl.
By then, I was walking down the sidewalk of the street she lived on, when I suddenly saw her brother, Troy. "Looking for Tabitha?", he asked. "Yeah" I said,"not much luck though". He sighed, "Too bad, I don't know why she ran away". I didn't feel like looking anymore, but I didn't want to let him down either. I get a terrible feeling when people are upset.
"Don't worry, I'll find her" I said, somewhat tiredly. "I hope so" Troy said, "Well, see you later". I looked down, "Bye".
Before I was gonna keep looking for Tabitha, I needed to rest somewhere to get my energy back. I wondered where I should take a break, I needed a nice place, maybe by a lake. The lake! Of course! The lake that Tabitha showed me. That was also the one place that I hadn't looked.
So I headed back to the park and through the forest, tripping a couple of times on tree stumps, getting my clothes dirty, but that didn't matter right now. I peaked at the lake from behind a tree and saw smoke.
My first thought that came to mind for me was,"Oh no! I hope it's not a forest fire!"
I came out from around, surprised to see miss Tabitha herself, sitting on a log, smoking a cigarette. "Tabitha" I said, slowly walking over to her. At first she looked startled, but then she took the cigarette out of her mouth and said, "Hey Zoe". She sounded happy and relaxed, totally fine. I sat down beside her. "What are you doing here?", I asked. "Just needed some time to myself, I guess" she replied. "Well your brother is worried, he doesn't have a clue where you are. We're all worried" I told her. She sighed and just sat there, blowing and puffing. "Does he know?" I asked. "Know what?" I looked right at her now. "That you smoke" I said, raising my voice a little. "It's fine, Zoe" she said, still calm and collected.
Then she looked right at me. "Why did you come looking for me anyway?",she asked. I smiled, "That's what friends are for". She smiled back. This was going to be a new beginning for us.
"Come on" I said, standing up, "Let's get you out of here". I lended her my hand to get up and she took it happily. And so, we walked together out of the woods, talking and laughing. I liked this a lot better than always being suspicious of her, when really, she was just a girl trying to fit in, like me. She was a friend, my friend.
