I arrived at school earlier than usual, ready to learn, and to see Dustin.
Only today, I knew things were gonna be different between us, maybe I would even ask him out. Thoughts like these put a bright smile on my face, just like the bright sunny day it was. I still couldn't believe we kissed. It blew me away, it made me forget about all the trouble I went through to get to him, it made me forget that Tabitha even existed. Wait, Tabitha. Just wait until she finds out, I thought, he's mine now.
I was sitting by myself, outside the school, waiting for that bell to start my day. I pulled out my phone from my pocket to see what time it was.
8:28am, which meant two minutes left.
Just when I looked up from my phone, a breeze blew by and Dustin appeared, walking over to me with the wind blowing his hair out of his face, he looked incredibly attractive.
He sat down next to me. We were on the same bench that we sat on when I asked him to the dance, so it was kind of funny, really.
"Hey" was the first thing he said. "Hey" I replied back.
We sat there for a minute of awkward silence. Did he regret the kiss?
"About last night" he started, we finally faced each other. "You mean the kiss?" I asked, already knowing the answer. He nodded, "I don't know what came over me". I smiled "Me neither, but I'm glad we kissed, aren't you?" He smiled back, "Of course I did, Zoe, but what does this mean?"
His question threw me off, I didn't know what to say, this was all happening so fast. "I don't know" I said, "Things are happening so fast".
I looked down at my converse sneakers, deep in thought. Sometimes staring off at something helps me think. Thinking, the thing that I do too much of.
I tried to change the subject, "How is your arm?" He was looking down too, "It's fine" he said. I couldn't take this anymore, something had to happen, so I decided to make the first move.
"Wanna hangout after school? Let's do something crazy". At first he looked surprised, "Whoa Zoe, we're not that close". I blushed, I wasn't talking about anything sexual.
"Not like that, I mean we could go somewhere, just you and me". He smiled, "Sure Zoe, as long as you don't drag me around town, like Tabitha".
I laughed a little, "you know I won't do that". "Cool, so where do you want to go?" The bell rang and people started walking past us as we stood up from the bench.
"Anywhere" I said. "Alright, I'll see you when schools over" he said, walking ahead. "Bye" I waved happily, this could be the start of something new.
