DAVID:
I paced around the stoop for about a minute before she finally answered the door. When she did, I tried not to act like I was nervous, but I'm guessing that it showed right through.
"Hey, Dave!" Petra smiled at me. "Come on in." I welcomed myself in and took off my shoes, as I'd done many times before. I loved Petra's home. It was perfect in every miniscule flaw. The flooring was old and marked up, but still beautiful. Her house was also smaller, but the furniture made each room seem just as big as the rooms in my house. It was also filled with pictures and memorabilia from her parents' travels.
"How are you?" I asked, following her into the kitchen.
"Alright, I guess." She shrugged giving me another smiled. I walked into the kitchen and was surprised to see two other girls, sitting down at the table. "I hope you don't mind, but I kind of found two other lab rats for you."
"No, I don't mind at all." I gave her a thankful smile. "I was getting worried that I wouldn't find anyone." I recognized the girls from school, but I couldn't put names to their pretty faces. Buy, my Lord, were they pretty! I could feel my pulse increasing a bit more, as I sat down at the breakfast bar.
"Okay, so these are my best friends Avery Holestedt and Bellen Frame." Petra introduced. I gave them a wave and they waved back.
"I'm David." I said. The one Petra introduced as Bellen got up and ran over to me; she gave me a huge hug and I didn't know what to do.
"Sorry, I'm a hugger." She said, giving me a giant smile. "So, your experiment sounds so fun! I cannot wait."
"I'm glad." I gave her a smile back. "I have to say, the boys were not as willing as you ladies are."
"I'm not that willing." Avery said plainly. I looked over to her; she was the only one in the room who wasn't smiling. In fact she looked quite annoyed.
"You don't have to." I said, hoping to make her less brooding.
"No, no. I made these two a promise. besides, I have nothing better to do." She said, sounding a bit less annoyed. As unenthusiastic as she was, she would make a great subject.
"Okay. So then It's set. Next Monday you will come over to my house and I'll put you in the rooms at 9:00 a.m." I explained.
"Will breakfast be provided?" Avery asked.
"No." I answered.
"Dammit! That means I have to wake up even earlier!" She whined, taking a sip over her water.
"Don't worry about her." Petra said, putting her hand on my shoulder. "She'll be a good little test rabbit. I promise." I looked at Petra's face; it was calm and beautiful liked always. She's been my friend ever since she was my Chem lab partner. We both shared a certain liking of Boron, and neither of us knew why. I was an only child, so Petra had always served as that annoying little sister. Thank God for her; she kept me sane. Maybe my dream would some true for me after all.
