Mia was poring over the books, more precisely "Completed Volume of Medical Werewolf History " by the celebrated author Seraphina Silver Mist. Her fingers lightly touched the author's name, and she felt grateful to the author for recording every odd affliction that was ever known to affect the shifter community since they were known. Surprisingly the knowledge gained from this book clearly indicated that werewolves were not as immune to diseases as they would like to believe. They were blessed with advanced healing systems, but they could fall prey to any sort of disorder affecting their central nervous system. Something like encephalitis or even a meningitis would be debilitating to a werewolf, and their body would go into an overdrive which usually resulted either in coma or cardiac arrest. The first recorded instance was in Egypt.
When she thought about it, she understood why the culprits were using the slow poison, it meant that Blue Moon would be brought to its knees, if their human side was weakened, they would not be able to phase into their wolves, unless they were treated. The warriors would be the first casualty, and the proof was sitting right in front of her in the medical reports of Sadie and her friends. She knew she had to treat them discreetly. The enemies made a smart move, they were trying to disable the central nervous system in a slow and sure manner. This would make their treatment more difficult, but she was a Luna, and she would try her best to help the innocent people of this pack. It was a no-brainer, someone did not want Blue Moon pack to ally with whichever party, and a war was brewing within the kingdom.
The infirmary doors opened with a bang, barely had she collected, when Alpha Smith walked in looking bloody, she quickly got up to him tend, but he stopped her hand, and declared,
"You are coming with me Dr. Mia now, and not living here...."
Grrr... There was that distinctive growl , which Mia had recognized by now, from Shawn who looked equally bloody.
Alpha Smith however continued ," I don't care what your snotty Beta thinks, but your coming with me." then to add more suspense he said seriously, "I've heard that the Edward is a total loon. Its dangerous." She looked at him incredulously and said , "What is the real reason Jon?"
Jon Smith looked embarrassed, and shook his head and said ,"Well.... Wait how did you even know I was lying?"
"Intuition", she answered happily and started disinfecting his injuries, this was the least she could do. Jon Smith was another unconventional Alpha, he was interested in engineering, gifted in designing, he was rumored to be nothing less than genius, who could build the most secure safe houses, and design weapons. In short a very powerful ally, to whichever party going to war. His wife was said to be a gifted mathematician, the Smith Pack were clearly well educated, than most of the packs together. So she asked him, " How do you know it was dangerous?"
" Well its Edward, after all...", but one look at her angry expression, Jon Smith gulped, he hated lying, especially to Mia, his little sister, so he said, "Well Edward, umm... told me about the threat."
No wonder Edward did not make an appearance until now, it was understandable why Shawn was upset, he had no idea about Edward's secret planning, and reacted. She looked at Shawn who was gritting his teeth and said ,"Where is Ed?"
"Who the hell is Ed? Oh wait a minute Edward.. Yes Ed and Edward same person.", Jon mumbled, he could be so clueless sometimes, that Mia could not help giggling as he was trying to understand the identity of the "mysterious Ed."
However her giggling was short-lived when she saw Bruce rushing towards them like a bullet train. Arrogant Bruce was panicking over something, he flew towards Mia, and then gathered her medicine supply kit and dragged her out. She was alarmed but she did not show it , she understood. Probably there was some medical emergency. She was as usual followed by an equally alarmed "hey" and "loon" and rushed footsteps.
Suddenly she was led to a clearing, and the scene which enfolded in front of her was heart-breaking. There was a beautiful charcoal wolf rolling from side to side, and she could see why, right under its muzzle there was a fatal wound that led up to midway of his left foreleg. The fur was burned in those places and her mind knew it was Silver.
Her instincts as a doctor kicked in quickly, and she started administering the silver antidote shots in the affected areas. She knew that it was risky, but she had to prevent the locked-in syndrome, that would have ultimately ... No she can't think about that, for additional safety, she also administered the booster tetanus which was known to prevent lock-jaw from happening. She saw the wolf was no longer struggling, this probably meant the medicines started working, to her surprise, Jon suddenly threw a blanket over the wolf. He simply shrugged and said, "You know he might get a fever, after those shots." She was even amazed that he knew that, but then this was the eccentric genius and her new self-declared brother, he would just come out with the most unusual observations.
Turning to look at the wolf, she gasped. Right there on the grass, under the blanket, was none other than her "special" Alpha. Edward BlueMoon.

Ok most of you must be wondering whether Locked -in Syndrome and Lock- Jaw are the same thing or not. Well they are not. Although they sound similar
Locked in Syndrome, a patient is virtually paralytic except for the eyes. So mainly they would not be able to move or communicate, except their eyes. This occurs when a person has either suffered a stroke, or sometimes even poisoning.
Lock- Jaw is mainly characterized by muscular spasms which start from the jaw and then spread to other parts of the body. This is a bacterial infection, especially when you have a untreated open wound, the chances increase. The tetanus vaccine is used to prevent it.
I used wikipedia to know more about it.
