The Kindhearted Luna

Chapter 28

" Luna Help Help them please." Last words from Elder Ben, mentor to  Ed, Shawn , Bruce and Graham, before he slipped into coma. Barely had Ed stepped out to resume work, when Master Ben was brought in by the grim faced Beta and Warriors. Surprisingly, he was not a victim of poisoning, silver or  any neural disease, but he had slurring, and could not sit straight. Mia was flummoxed. Master Ben was delirious and despite the video conference with Zach, they could not revive him from his unconscious state. She did not want to risk surgery, considering his frail condition. Zach agreed. But his cryptic warnings had sent all of them in a edge.

She started recollecting all the incidents that had occurred right from this curious case of Luna Smith's poisoning to Master Ben's coma. This would appear coincidental, but her gut told her otherwise. There was a invisible hand which had forced these incidents upon them, and chances are whoever this  person was, was  hell-bent on creating chaos, but was it limited to the throne, or something more sinister was brewing and they were caught unaware.

Soon Mia found herself in Ed's study and in front of the Pack family files. She could hear rustling, and someone heavy shifting

Oomph. "There Luna the files you wanted to see.", Graham placed a dusty carton in front of her.  The cloud of dust inevitably led her into fit of sneezing and coughing. 

"Sorry Luna. Its been a while people actually ask for these files." She smiled at him, Graham might have ridiculed her in the past, but he transformed into gruff admirer-protector, since Isabel. He was assigned to be her guard a job he actually took a bit seriously, to the point of making the cooks taste the food before they serve her. He had proclaimed, " Can't take chances with you" or " I am serious", and then there was Shawn's growls which ensured Graham usually got his way for the food tests.

She peered into Isabel's family history which was recorded in the yellowed pages of the rather ornately decorated pack book. There right in the pages, the information shocked her. Isabel RedMoon youngest daughter of celebrated Seers Corvin RedMoon and Elena RedMoon. Isabel's parents were respected, if anything they were treated as royalty.

"Oh my god.", Graham's voice broke her trance and she asked , " What is it Graham ?"

"Luna Master Ben also came from that pack. Look. " and she noticed at the lines at which he pointed, she was surprised. 

"Graham did Master Ben ever make predictions after he joined this pack?"

" Come to think of it, he never did. But he gave us fair bit of warnings, you know the usual, stay away from Silver, etc, etc."

"Just try to remember, it might not have been a full- fledged prediction, but some odd warnings." She could see Graham's eyes move faster, the wheels in his mind was turning faster.

" Yes , once he told us to beware of strings. we did not pay heed, but Alpha did, and that sure helped our hides, otherwise all of us would have been beheaded."

"Graham please get me Beta Shawn's family history, anything about Seraphina SilverMist." Graham rushed in to get the files, while she started thinking.

Edward took a look around his surroundings. The clearing where, he was attacked, and Olivia's grave. He looked longingly at her grave, Olivia did not deserve to die , and she promised him that they would have a family. He laid beside her grave and whispered , " Why did you leave Olivia?" . As usual there was  no response, but he always asked himself time and again.  His eyes were getting misty, and the guilt that had swallowed him for so many years, did not get any better, but he knew she would understand  so he informed her, " I love you Olivia. But Mia makes me feel alive, I can't go on without her. Yeah I know I have just met her, but we are werewolves we are in love with our mates even before we  see them. Protect her Olivia, please." 

Finally Edward started walking towards the pack house, and more specifically to the pack infirmary. He found it with its usual occupants, and he slightly cringed at the thought , that how easily he had clubbed Master Ben as the usual occupant. Master Ben used to be injured in the pack wars but it wasn't serious for him to occupy infirmary for more than a few hours. Ed glanced at Master Ben, and found him sleeping peacefully, for a moment he thought the worst and went closer and was relived when he saw Master Ben breathing slowly. A glint of silver suddenly flickered across the room, he was momentarily startled and looked closely. As he peered down, the glint came back again, Ed moved followed the path of the glint and found it emanating from Olivia's cousins.

He went around them and looked closely, they were still in their peaceful unconscious states. They had their mandatory  haircut every quarter. As he observed them carefully, he found  the source of silver glint, it would go almost unnoticed but he saw right in their forearms, a fading silver infinity sign. He was quite sure that the infinity was not always present, and then he looked at his left fore am, he would have missed it in the mass of scarred tissue but the infinity was there. He had seen this infinity symbol somewhere, his Dad used to sport them immediately after a war, but that was Auntie Seraphina's good luck charm. He could not believe his eyes, and he rushed towards Isabel, and sure enough there was the infinity symbol shining brightest. He had to inform Mia.

Unbelievable. Those were the first words that came to her mind, as she  read Seraphina's diary. Her file had the information they had already known, but Graham had managed to unearth the Diary which was tucked away with the older files. Ed had to know about it, and she rushed out.

Crrunch

 Mia winced, she was blinded with pain, and held her nose. She glared at the perpetrator, only to see Ed dancing on one leg. God she officially hated heels, poor Ed. She meekly uttered ,

"Ed I'm so sorry. I was rushing to see you."

Ed stopped hopping and straightened himself, started grinning.

"Yeah I have to tell you something important. I know why everything is happening."

"Mia, even I have to say. You start first."

"Ed I'm sure you have something more important."

Grrr....

Shawn as usual managed to catch their attention, Edward made his displeasure known with a warning growl. But then their eyes glazed,and now  Mia was irritated with their super wolf communication.

"Luna I am afraid I have to speak with Alpha, something serious has cropped up.", Bruce  joined them, but then suddenly, a heart breaking howl could be heard distantly. Mia's eyes glistened, she knew that  wolf. 

Graham announced, "Alpha the Knight pack ....".
