Chapter By: Merry

It was the middle of a dark night and Merry, Boromir, and Gimli were walking fast to the end of the river hoping to get there soon and meet up with the others. Boromir and Gimli had successfully fought off all the random swarm of orcs and where now trying to catch up with Pippin, Aragorn, and Legolas who were also going to the end of the river.

"Why are we walking so fast? I can barely keep up with you," Merry said running up behind Boromir's, "My legs are short... and are getting tired. Can we take a quick break?"

"I'm with him," Gimli grumbled to himself. He was behind as well trying to keep up with Boromir.

Boromir stopped in his tracks and Merry ran straight into his back. Opps.

"Fine, a short break. Then we keep moving," Boromir sighed. Then he mumbled something to himself.

Merry put his hands on his knees and caught his breath. As he did so, he looked up for a moment and something caught his eye. It was small, shiny, and he could smell an odor in the air. Maybe it was from the small shiny object.

"Hey, look at that!" Merry said and started to approach the shiny object slowly.

Before either Boromir or Gimli could figure out what Merry was looking at, it was too late. Merry had spotted a bowl with some type of food inside. As he got close to the food, the ground underneath him collapsed and he feel into a large hole with a scream.

Gimli and Boromir ran over at the sound and looked down into the hole Merry was trapped in. They both looked at each other and said,

"Troll!"

Merry: At that time I hadn't heard what they said, so I had no idea what was going on and what was coming for me.

Pippin: Glad I wasn't there! Hey, this sounds like something I would do! And yes, I am watching Merry write this chapter.

Boromir got to the ground and held his hand as far down into the hole as he could.

"Hurry, grab my hand!" Boromir insisted.

Merry sat on the ground at the bottom of the hole a little shaken and dizzy.

"Hurry!" Boromir said again twitching his arm a little in frustration.

Merry looked up towards his friends. He stood up and then reached his arm up towards Boromir's outstretched hand. There was about a 1 foot reach in-between their hands though. Merry jumped, but still not being able to reach Boromir's hand. The ground began to shake and rumble. Boromir took his hand away and braced himself. Then he stood and looked around.

"They are coming. We will come back and save you,"

"What? What is!?" asked Merry.

Boromir and Gimli had already left though. Merry tried to remember what they had said earlier. Had they said,

"Toes? Is that what they said earlier? No...Tolls? No... Tros?" Merry thought to himself some more. Then he got it! They had said "Trolls! Of course!"

Merry had seen trolls only twice. The first time was when he, Pippin, Sam, Aragorn, and the dying Frodo had seen the trolls that had been turned to stone from Bilbo's adventure.

Merry: Sorry, but you were dying, Frodo. You won't remember this because you were almost dead, but we got to see the trolls that Bilbo encountered on his adventure! It was pretty cool.

They were all in the forest and Aragorn and Sam were trying to find a special plant to help Frodo after he had been stabbed by the Witch King of Angmar. Merry and Pippin had stayed back to look after Frodo and as they did, they had both seen the stone cold trolls from Bilbo's story. Merry had heard the story many times. Even though he hadn't been paying attention too much, he knew that experience for Bilbo was scary.

The other time he had seen a troll was when him and the rest of the Fellowship were in the mines of Moria. The Fellowship had to fight a huge cave troll. Merry remembered him and Pippin jumping on the troll and brought it down with the help of Legolas' good aim. Merry remembered how that cave troll had picked him up and threw him off its head. It had been tough and mean.

The only difference between those two trolls was that the cave troll couldn't talk, but he had heard that the land trolls could talk from Bilbo's story. Merry stood in the corner of the hole and waited as he thought,

"Will I escape? Gandalf isn't here to help. Bilbo had come ready with 12 or 13 dwarves and I only have 1 dwarf and 1 man. I wish I wouldn't have gone for the shiny bowl of food. I wish Pip was here...

Pippin: Awww!

A/N: So i wont be able to post anything else until probably next Monday or Tuesday because our family is going to a 3 day christian concert and i wont have my laptop to type the next chapters while i am there. Sorry the story left off at a cliffhanger!
