Chapter By: Merry
Merry, Boromir, and Gimli had finally found the river again which was pretty far since trolls couldn't swim to well. They had started walking along it again in silence.
"We should pick up our pace. The others are probably worried or they left us behind and went for the ring bearer," said Boromir walking a little quicker.
It was a very silent walk and Merry asked,
"Do you think Pippin's okay?"
"I'm sure he's fine, lad," mumbled Gimli.
Boromir said nothing.
"What about you?" Merry asked and made a steady pace with Boromir.
"I don't know? Sure, what do you think?" Boromir snapped back.
Merry wasn't expecting Boromir to snap at him that way, so he stayed quiet and didn't ask any more questions.
Boromir stopped suddenly and grabbed Merry's shoulder to stop him from walking any farther.
Gimli whispered,
"What is it?"
Silence from Boromir again. He was looking around listening. Boromir pulled Merry behind him and put his hand on his sword handle. Merry peaked out from behind Boromir's back. Just then a bush, not too far away rustled a little. Gimli raised his axe and Boromir started pulling out his sword slowly and quietly.
Merry: What is it!? Do you know?
Everybody stared at the bush that had moved in silence. Then out hopped a... a... a rabbit! Boromir growled angrily, let go of his sword handle, and walked away more briskly. He was now grumbling to himself angrily. Merry smiled at the rabbit and then ran to catch up to Boromir. Gimli close behind too.
After a whole boring day of just walking, Boromir and Gimli set up camp for the night. They all sat around a small fire warming themselves up. Ever since the rabbit incidence, nobody had said a word.
Gimli eventually fell asleep and started to snore very loudly. Boromir had his back to Merry and Gimli and was looking out towards the nearby waterfall. Merry was on his back looking up to the bright stars and the full moon. He could hear the loud rushing noise of the waterfall next to them.
Out of nowhere Boromir turned around to Merry and said,
"Sorry I got upset earlier when you asked about your friend," Boromir confessed.
One thing Merry knew about Boromir was that he hated apologizing or confessing he was wrong about something. Especially if he were in front of Aragorn. Merry smiled and sat up to look at Boromir. Then Boromir continued,
"I truly believe that Pippin is okay. Now, I am going to show you something my little brother showed me before I left him and my home, Gondor,"
"You have a brother?" Merry interrupted.
Boromir nodded and went on,
"Okay, so whenever I miss somebody, like my brother, he tells me to close my eyes and feel completely calm. You do it,"
Merry closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Then Boromir continued,
"Now think about all the wonderful times you and Pippin have had together. Every single one you can remember right now. Search your heart,"
Merry smiled as he thought about the time he and Pippin had had taken crops from Mr. Maggots garden and gotten away with it, when they almost set Bilbo's birthday party on fire by one firework, the countless amount of times they played spy and climbed trees and hide in bushes from Hobbits that were looking for them, how they always sang and danced together in the Green Dragon on tables to entertain all the other Hobbits, and finally when they had wrested Boromir to the ground before going to the Mines of Moria. That was fun. Merry nodded, meaning, "Okay, I did it,"
"Good, glad I was a help," said Boromir and dumped water over the fire. Merry opened his eyes and smiled.
"Do you miss your brother now?" Merry asked.
"Whenever we leave each other I always have an empty place in my heart for him. We are close," Boromir said, "But I'm okay just like you are now. Right?"
Merry smiled and nodded towards Boromir. After the fire completely was out, Boromir told Merry he needed to go to sleep and he would keep the first watch of the night. He obeyed and lay down on the ground again. Just as he was about to close his eyes to go to sleep, a shadow stepped out of the darkness. He could not tell who it was, because they were covering the light of the moon.
"Don't do that next time!" Boromir scolded.
Merry sat up and saw through the moonlight, Legolas.
Pippin: Yay! Legolas has arrived finally!
Merry: Oh yes! That was a happy moment. But also kinda scary because I didn't know if something happened to Pippin and Aragorn.
