Chapter By: Merry and Pippin
Pippin woke up in the middle of the night and it had stopped raining. He waited for his eyes to adjust to the darkness around him, but something felt wrong. When he could see a little clearly, he looked to where Merry had been next to him, but he was gone! Pippin looked to where the camp fire had been with all the others around it. Everybody was asleep; Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, and Gimli. Somebody must have fallen asleep during their watch.
Pippin: Probably Gimli.
Pippin heard a splash by the river and looked towards it. He squinted and saw a black silhouette of a person sitting by the end of the river; Merry. Pippin walked over to him quietly and saw that he was fishing with the rod Pippin had made. Merry had already caught three fish that sat next to him.
"Can I join you?" Pippin asked.
Merry jumped not knowing Pippin was there and turned around.
"Yah, sure. I have an idea," Merry said.
Pippin sat down next to him and said,
"What is it?"
"I was thinking since all of us are back together again, you and I could make a big breakfast for everybody! That way we can save the Lembas bread for when we really need it!"
"Second breakfast too?" asked Pippin.
"Of course!" Merry said, "On the menu there will be fish and berries or fruit if we can find some,"
"Okay,"
Merry pulled in a fourth fish, then a fifth, then a sixth soon after. He really was great at fishing. Merry put the fishing rod down and said,
"Let's go look for some fruits and berries now,"
"Okay, but we will have to only pick the fruits and berries that are familiar to us. I almost ate a berries that was poisonous when you where gone, but Aragorn saved me," Pippin explained.
"Yah, okay," Merry responded.
They walked away into the woods and looked around at every bush looking for berries. There were many berries that they didn't know what they where, so they passed them and kept moving. After a long while, they came across strawberries.
"Yum! I haven't had strawberries in so long! Remember them dipped in cream?!" Pippin said and plopped one in his mouth.
"Yes, but we should save the rest for the others," Merry said.
Pippin took off his blue coat and said that they could put all the berries and fruit they find in it. They agreed and started picking all the strawberries and putting them in the jacket. Once they picked all of the strawberries, Pippin picked up his jacket in a certain way that would cradle the berries so they wouldn't fall out.
They started walking again and found a blackberry bush. They picked them all off the bush and then put them in Pippin's coat along with the strawberries.
"I think we should start looking for some fruit now," Merry said.
Pippin nodded and they started looking upward towards the tops of the tree branches.
"Look!" Pippin said happily pointing upwards at some tree branches.
The tree had a whole bunch of reddish orange fruits on their branches. The fruit was too high for their eyes to see what kind of fruit it was so they squinted, but still couldn't see too well.
"Are those mangos" Merry asked.
"They could be peaches," Pippin said, "I will climb up the tree and see what kind of fruit it is,"
Merry nodded and said,
"Be careful,"
Pippin jumped up onto the lowest branch he could find and then swung himself up another branch. And another, and another. There wasn't another branch that his feet could climb up, so he grabbed a high branch with his hands and squirmed up using all of his arm muscles. He swung his feet and legs onto the branch. Pippin was now sitting on the branch the way you would sit on a horse.
He reached up and grabbed the redish orange fruit. He brought it to his face level and smiled.
"Planchgo fruit!" Pippin called down to Merry.
"Are you sure?" Merry shouted back up.
Pippin took his pointer finger and stuck it into the fruit and then pulled it out. He smelt his juicy finger and then called down to Merry,
"Positive!"
"Okay great! Throw some down to me," Merry shouted.
Pippin threw many of the fruits down and Merry caught them and put them with the strawberries and the blackberries in Pippin's coat. After Pippin had picked about twenty Planchgo fruits something caught his eye.
Merry: What I learned from the troll experience that I had, was if you ever see something interesting just ignore it and keep going. Something bad will always happen.
"Let's go! The sun is coming up!" Merry said.
"Okay, hang on," said Pippin.
Pippin: I very much regret what I am about to do!
Pippin was looking wide eyed at some kind of strange creature that had just landed on the branch he was on. It has three eyes and a circle shaped mouth with puffy red lips. The creature was looking at Pippin with one eye, Merry with another eye, and the sky with its third eye. It reminded Pippin of a chameleon. It had two small purple horns and two small bird like feet and legs. It had feathers like a bird too and they where pitch black.
Pippin picked one last Planchgo fruit and held it out to the creature. All of its eyes directed towards the fruit. Out of nowhere, the creature opened its mouth and took the fruit. Now only did it take the fruit, but it took Pippin's hand too! His entire hand was in the creature's mouth! Pippin could feel the creature teeth tickling and biting into his hand. He screamed and ripped back his hand out of the mouth. His hand was covered with purple gooey stuff.
Merry looked up and shouted,
"What happened?" Pippin was too high up in the tree to see the black creature that blended into the darkness. The sun was coming up too slowly.
Before Pippin could respond, the creature's tail popped out from beneath its black feathers and out came a stinger. The stinger was attached to the tail and it looked like a scorpion. Pippin jerked himself back against the tree trunk just as the stinger came down and hit the tree branch. The stinger folded back into the bird's feathers and it flew away. Pippin scrambled down the tree as fast as he could and jumped down the last foot of the tree.
"What happened?" Merry asked staring at Pippin's purple gooey hand.
A/N: Long chapter, but a good one i think. Just to let you know, i made up the Planchgo fruit name. So don't go to the store and ask somebody where you can find one. lol :-)
