Chapter VI : Good news !

Astrid's POV

I didn't sleep well, I was thinking about Hiccup. A bunch of questions crossed my mind like why did he become angry when I asked him about his parents ? Is something wrong with them ? I stood up from my bed, I gave mom a kiss, took my bag and closed the door slowly as I got outside the house.

I made my way, not to the school, but to Hayden's. Maybe I can ask him some questions while walking to the school.

I ran to Hayden's home, as fast as I could. Few instants later, I was standing in front of the door and before I push the button to ring. He opened.

He seemed happy to see me again.
- Oh ! Hi Astrid ! He said scratching the back of his neck.
Damn ! He's so cute !
- I wanted just to walk to school with you ! Blushing as usual. Why do I blush every time I see him ?
- OK, I'll go get my bag. And in a moment we were walking quietly.

I decided to break the silence with a question.
- So Hiccup, why should I call you Hiccup ?
- Why is it bad ? He asked smirking.
- No but it's strange to me, I'd like to know its origin.
He thought and said
- Well when I was a kid I often had the hiccups, so my parents decided to call me so. And when you call me like, I remember my mother and how she looks like.
That was really so touching. I wanna cr....But wait ! What happened to his mother ?
- If you don't mind I had one more question : Where is she ? I mean your mother.
- Well she died... I was getting ready for my birthday with my dad's friend, Gobber, at home when he called. Gobber took the phone and few instants later he dropped it, he told me that mom died in a car accident, since then, I live with my dad but he's working now in a country far far away from here. He said trying not to cry but when he looked at me, I was already in tears. I threw myself at his chest crying...
- It's ok don't cry. And he wiped my tears with his thumb gently.

In about 15 minutes, we were at school. We were the first ones to come up. Then ugh...She came, his BIG FAN. The one who kissed him at the first day.

She got closer and closer as Hayden's grip on my shoulder tightened.
- Hi sweetheart ! She said.
- What do you want ? He said angrily.
- You. And she looked at me. Who is she ?
- My girlfriend !
- How could you do that to me ! And she cried, cleaning her face from makeup.

She looked like a monster without makeup. No wonder Hiccup chose me to be his girlfri...Wait ! What did he say ? Is he serious ?

- Hiccup, can we have a word together ?
- Sure.
- What did you mean by 'girlfriend' ?
- I wanted her to leave me alone. And that doesn't mean you're my girlfriend though.

WHY WHY WHY ? Why don't he wants me to be his girlfriend ? WHY ?

And the yard got more crowded 'til the bell rang. Me and Hayden were sitting on the hill at the corner. He was reading and I was calling mom.

- Hi mom !
- Ohhh Astrid where were you ? I looked for you everywhere ! She yelled through the phone.
- I was having a pyjama party at my friend's place ! I lied.
- Pyjama party you say, with your school uniform and jacket. Alright, thank God you're OK. I was about to call you to tell you I'll travel to London for the next two or three weeks, fore some work purposes, so don't panic if you didn't find me home.
- Ok don't forget gifts, I'm still a kid, right ? Bye, miss you. And I hang up and jumped right up, punching Hiccup's shoulder.
- Aww ! What was that for ?! He asked holding his shoulder.
- Mom won't be home for the next three weeks, YAY ! I can do whatever I want !
- Can we get in class now ? He asked, annoyed.
- Yeah, what do we ha.... ?
- Chemistry. Cutting me.

I took my bag, following Hayden to the lab.

*In the class*

I wasn't paying attention, as usual, but I stared at Hiccup who was unlike me, very careful to the lesson. His eye glasses suited him very well, as if they were made for him.

I took a piece of paper, a pencil and started to draw Hiccup's body, as I remember it. 'til she, Mrs V. Green snapped me out of that wonderful dream.
- Miss Hofferson, are you with us ?
- Y-Yeah. Awkwardly.
- Could you explain to us how do Photosynthesis work, please ?
- Sure...Eh ehh... . And Hayden passed me a piece of paper. Without thinking, I read it.
- Photosynthesis is how plants transform the light, emitted by sun, using carbon dioxide and chlorophyl into organic material, that can be used for self-feeding or like organic fuels.

Her mouth was open wide. Luckily the bell rang, I was the first one to get out.

I was at my locker when Hiccup came in with a piece of paper in his hands. Oh shit ! it was the portrait I drew.

He cleared his throat and I turned to face him.
- You dropped something. Handing me the pic. I took it, shut my locker and went away, silently.

*After school, at night*

It was a stormy night, I was watching TV, alone with a bowl of pop corn. Scared to death because of the terrifying movie. When someone knocked the door. Terrified, I went to the door, and opened it only to discover it was Hayden. I sighed in relief.
- Astrid can I ask you something ?
- Yeah, me too.

- Can I stay with you tonight ?...... What ?
- Can you stay with me tonight ?.. What ?
All together.

I was extremely happy.

- Yeah of course you can ! And I hugged him.

He got in, and I closed the door behind him.

- So why did you come here ? I asked trying to hide my extreme happiness.
- I was at home alone, bored, so I said ' Why don't I spend the night here with Astrid ? ' if you don't mind ?
- Of course ! I'd love to ! Jumping in excitement.

We stayed awake too late watching movies, 'til I slept on his chest. So he covered me with a blanket. And most probably, slept next to me. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
