Chapter 15: Breakfast for Two
{D. K}
"I will put a leash on you, Dakota King," Rebekah speaks, opening a bottle of scotch and pouring a bit into a glass. "That's your last trip to the bayou."
Dakota raised her hands up in the air, an exasperated expression on her face. "I didn't even want to go in the first place."
"Shut up, the both of you," Klaus griped the moment he stepped through the door, leaving it open for another person to walk in behind him.
The glass in Rebekah's hand fell to the floor, not shattering, but making a very loud noise. "Elijah." The blonde ran to her brother, engulfing him into a tight hug, a sigh of relief leaving her mouth. "You're safe."
Elijah looked behind her after being released from the hug. He smiled at Dakota, walking towards her. "Hello—"
The loud sound of skin colliding with skin took them all by surprise. "You're an uncle now," Dakota's voice was thick and obvious tears welled up in her eyes. "You can't just go around getting thrown into a box anymore."
"I apologize," Elijah smirked, understanding the meaning of her words through their odd relationship. She missed him. "Are you crying?"
"No. It's the hormones, not me."

"Everything that brought us here to New Orleans was a lie—this story that Sophie Deveraux fabricated. This struggle for control of the French Quarter, this war between vampires and the witches, it wasn't over territory at all. This was over Davina." It was very late, Elijah had taken off his suit jacket, and unbuttoned the wrist cuffs of his dress shirt that had a button or two undone at the top. "Eight months ago, Sophie and her sister Jane-Anne lost everything. Now, four months after that, a young, pregnant woman comes to their restaurant looking for the Original hybrid. Their hope was restored."
"Are you saying that Jane-Anne got herself killed solely for the purpose to finish the Harvest and kill Davina?"
The oldest Original brother nodded. "That's exactly what I'm saying. If Sophie Deveraux is successful in finding Davina, she can bring her sisters daughter back to life."
Rebekah looked up to her brother, eyebrows creased as she thought hard about this. "I thought we came here to wage a war for power."
"No," Elijah denied, sparing a glance at Klaus. "This is about family. In order to return her niece to life, Sophie will fight to her own death. And that makes her more dangerous than anyone."
Dakota sat up in her chair. "Oh my God. That's why she was so worried about the magic dying in those dead witches in the bayou. She doesn't want it for the coven, she wants it for herself so she's strong enough to defeat Davina."

Dakota walked into the living room, her hair wet from a shower, the water dripping onto the back of Klaus' t-shirt that was on her body. Both of the brothers were there, on opposite sides of the room reading something. A woman laid dead on the table between them, her blood splashing onto the carpet. Not in the mood to start a riot over the stain on the expensive carpet that she'd spent a lot of money for, she simply rolled her eyes and continued walking towards the kitchen. "Get her off my table."
"You're showing nicely," Klaus compliments, being all too quick to follow her into the kitchen.
Dakota looked down at her growing bump that was beginning to be seen through her clothes. "I look fat." She retorts, grabbing the jug of orange juice and a plate of day old pizza.
Klaus tsked, leaning forward to get the cereal from the top of the fridge, his scent passing Dakota's nose as his body leaned over hers. He took the pizza from her, throwing it into the trash beside him. Instead, he made her a proper breakfast, taking the time to cut of a banana while she sat down on the bar stool. "Eat."
"I wanted pizza."
"Baby needs protein."
"He's right," Elijah cuts in from his large mug of coffee. "The baby needs to eat healthy to grown strong."
Dakota munched on a mouthful of honey coated clusters, a trail of milk going down her chin as she spoke. "My kid is a magical hybrid baby, she's strong enough to handle some pizza for breakfast."
"She?"
"It's a girl."
Elijah tone went soft, his eyes twinkling as he stared at Dakota's growing stomach. "Have you thought of any names yet?"
"Haven't had the time. I've been trying to stay alive, and after hearing about Sophie's suicide mission, I'm getting a bit concerned seeing as though our lives are linked together."
Klaus stood behind her, running his fingers through her hair and rubbing her shoulders and back. He left a kiss on her exposed shoulder, sending a shiver down Dakota's spine and a light blush to form on her cheeks at her body's reaction to Klaus. She wasn't used to the PDA, but she wasn't complaining, they were starting to return to normal, and day by day Klaus warmed up to the idea of a kid. He even started to share the same bed with her again. "Don't you worry. We'll get that little issue fixed."
"How many people will we have to kill to get them unlinked and us out of this town?" Rebekah asked, dragging the dead body on the ground and out the back door.
Elijah frowned. "None." Dakota raised a brow at him. "Alright, potentially everyone."
