Chapter 23: Big Bad Wolf

"Little Red Riding Hood?" Dakota leaned her chin in Klaus' shoulder, his spicy scent filling up her nose as her brown eyes skimmed over the words on the pages in the book.
He hummed leaning into her warmth, his fingers idly turning the pages, barely reading the words anymore. "Found a whole box full of these stories in the back of my closet. This used to be Bekah's favorite story."
"You miss them."
Klaus let the book shut with a light thud, putting it on the table. "They betrayed me, I shouldn't miss a thing. I'm ruling an empire with a man I consider my friend," The hybrid had admitted to Dakota how he'd made a deal with Marcel to rule New Orleans together as equals—an unstoppable force. "—I'm starting a life with the most gorgeous woman alive, and all I can think about is how I can't share it with my siblings."
"Just forgive them, confront them and try to forgive. You're not exactly a saint either."
"Come with me."
Dakota placed a hand on her swollen belly that grew larger and larger everyday. "I think it'd be best I stay here, but you can do this. I know it."

Klaus leaned on the piano, his fingers pressing on random keys until his siblings walking inside the plantation home he'd moved from. The rooms were stripped from their life, a result of Klaus taking the furniture and returning it to its rightful home where he lived.
"Nik," Rebekah gasped, her wavy hair a mess on her head.
He silenced her with a hand. "Where've you been? You reek of mutts."
The blonde glanced at Elijah before speaking. "'lijah and I were out in the bayou and we found a group of werewolves that had mother ring on his neck."
"Am I supposed to believe that the two of you just stumbled into the bayou without any particular motive."
"Nevermind that," Rebekah excused him. "Nik we believ that we may've found members from your family." Her blue eyes were filled with hope and happiness for her older brother. "They told us of their legends, of a werewolf who had mated with a powerful witch and bore a child that they'd never seen before—a hybrid boy."
Elijah tossed the silver ring to Klaus, catching it swiftly in his large hands. "The bloodline of your true father."
"Even if this is what you say it is, I've got enough family to last me a lifetime and I don't have the patience nor care to add more."
"Why are you here then?"
The small ring moved around Klaus hand, having more weight now that it had potential meaning, but he shrugged that aside allowing his fingers to move gently against the intricate design in the simple silver accessory. "I was going to come here and ask the both of you to come home, that our family was already low and how it'd be better if we stayed together as one, but I think that you are perfectly fine just where you are."
Elijah followed his brother outside. "Niklaus, stop."
"What now, big brother?"
"I've made some lousy accusations towards you and your intentions once you became to power. I thought for sure that you hadn't changed one bit, and in a way you haven't, but for the most part you've grown. A month ago, you wouldn't have wasted your time on someone who betrayed you, and now you tried to put the past behind you. You've stepped up to become a better man and I can only assume that's for your child and lover."
"What are you getting at?"
"I'm sorry, Niklaus. For loosing faith that you could grow. You've changed, and I believe that it's for the better and I apologize for not encouraging the thought that it would ever be possible."
Klaus stood some distance away from his brother but the words he was hearing was so loud in his ears it was as if Elijah were screaming. "I never expected you to say that to me."
Elijah stared up at his younger brother, a small smile forming on his freshly shaven face. "You are not easy to love, brother."
"Yet your desire to do so never seems to seise." There was a small pause before Klaus took a deep breath and spoke calmly. "You may come home, both you and Bekah if you please. All I wasn't was a sincere apology."
"Did Dakota set you up to this?"
A smirk spread across his face, large enough for his dimples to peek through. "Only part of it, but I can't let her take all of the credit."
