Just pretend it isn't Pheobe Tonkin in the gif, she's not the one Klaus is kissing, I promise.
Prologue
{D. K}
Things in Mystic a falls changed over the past few months, but that thing that seemed the almost impossible was the gravestone situated on the middle of the cemetery. In large capital letters was Dakota King.
Everyday at the same time, Dakota found herself sitting beside her grave, because at the same time everyday Klaus strolled through the other headstones before he made it to hers. His hands were tucked in his jean pockets, a plain dark blue t-shirt hugging his body.
"You're late," Dakota commented. Klaus stared down at her name with sorrowful eyes.
"I'm late," He spoke. "—I almost decided not to come because every time I look at this stupid headstone, memories of your face are plastered all over my eyelids and it's torture."
"I'm sorry."
The wind around them seemed to pick up slightly, sending a chill throughout the cemetery, the greys my clouds matching the hollow feeling Klaus held. "And I know it's not you're fault. You didn't ask to be here." He sympathized weekly. "I've been sleeping at your house, I hope you don't mind, I know you don't like people touching your things but I couldn't help myself." Klaus rubbed his hands against his arms, even though he couldn't be cold, a perk of being an immortal. "It still smells like you there, and after a when your duvet started loosing that sweet smell you always have on, so I slept on the couch too."
Dakota stood before him, her fingers brushing over his warm skin, and it comforted her, even if he had no idea she was there. A year strolled down her face, a matching one going down Klaus', and he couldn't even feel Dakota's cautious hands grip his cheeks so her lips could kiss it away.
After a moment, the hybrid collected himself, wiping the wet tracks off his face. "I'm thinking about leaving Mystic Falls. Elena Gilbert has turned off her emotions and caused quite a disturbance. " A soft chuckle passed his plump, red lips. "You hated her, but I think you would've liked her like this. Less clingy, not so emotional and selfish."
Dakota scoffed, pulling away to lean on her headstone. "Like you've got room to talk about selfishness."
"I'm selfish too, which is how I know selfish she's being—how selfish she's been." His hands were out of his pockets, but fisted into tight balls on his sides. "She took you from me, and when she came back from finding the cure I considered killing her, but I'm glad I didn't. Jeremy's dead and even with her emotions off, she's in hell."
"It'd be more satisfying if she was the only one there."
Klaus went rigid, his eyes cautiously darting all around him. "Who's there?"
Dakota looked around with him, assuming that he had heard something that she'd missed while she was busy talking, but as she stayed quiet to listen to their surroundings, nothing was heard other than the steady sound of their breathing. "Klaus, nothing's out there. Relax, no one else is out here but you and me."
His jaw clenched as he stepped a few steps back, turning slowly in a circle, searching for whatever it is that he heard. "This isn't funny. Whatever game you're playing, I suggest you stop."
The wind around them picked up, leaves being violently ripped from the trees and blowing in the wind, the sky was getting darker, a eerie grey that sent a gloomy feel across the town of Mystic Falls. "What the—"
Klaus' eyes met Dakota's and he blinked multiple times trying to comprehend what was happening, if this was real or and incredibly cruel dream. "Sweetheart, is that you?"
"You can see me?" Dakota jumped up from her place on her own tombstone. "Oh my God, you can see me."
Klaus was frozen in place, blue eyes taking in the woman standing before him, he was drinking her up. He stepped back when her arms finally wrapped around him, her intoxicating smell that he had missed filled his nostrils once again.
The hybrid was hesitant to return the display of affection, fearing that if he touched her then her body would dissipate much like what happened when he dreamed of her. On his neck was the steady drops of wetness from her eyes, giving Klaus all the proof he needed that she was there, really there, not an illusion or a dream. He held her tightly, lifting her in the air, allowing her legs to wrap around his waist. "How is this possible?"
"There's been talk from the other side from the witches that Bonnie Bennett has been using expression, and she's been working on a spell to lift the veil to the other side. Only ghosts inside the expression triangle can be seen and once we walk outside of it then were back to being invisible and unheard."
Klaus was quiet for a moment, taking a second to look at Dakota, to comprehend the information being fed to him. "Is this a bad thing? That I can see you?"
"Probably," Dakota shrugged, not really caring about the consequences. "—I don't really know, but I do know is that this won't last forever."
"Might as well make the most of it then," Klaus made a noise in the back of his throat, one that could only be described as pure desperation for Dakota as his lips made contact with her neck. With the help of heightened speed, she soon found herself being pressed against the rough bark of a tree. The two kissed feverishly, skin on skin, teeth on teeth, and tongue on tongue. Clothes were thrown carelessly off of their bodies, landing haphazardly on the ground.
"Wait, wait—" Dakota stopped, taking in deep labored breaths. "I don't know how long I'll be here or if I'll get to come back, so let's make it last, okay?"
Klaus nodded in understand, taking things more slow, cherishing each others bodies over and over again.
