"What can I get ya?"a blonde man in his early thirties asked us. I glanced over at kaiden expectantly.
"Whiskey on the rocks and sangria for the pretty lady,"the bartender nodded and walked off. Kaiden just gave me a smug look.
"Oh, shutup. That was just a lucky guess."
He scoffed,"lucky guess!"I snickered at how flustered my best friend was getting.
Kaiden was my bestfriend and knew practically everything about me. I just wanted to have a little fun and irk him in the process.
Kaidens red eyes glared at me as he slowly realised what I was doing.
"Kalani...,"he growled playfully.
With a huff he pushed his brown hair back and pouted. I rolled my eyes at his kid like antics and thanked the bartender when he slid us our drinks.
I took a sip of my drink and tried to ask as nonchalantly as possible, "sooo... Chris couldn't come?"
"No, he said he was busy and couldn't make it," I bit my lip and subconsciously curled a strand of blonde hair around my finger.
Kaiden eyed me,"why? What's going on with you two?"
I laughed nervously and tucked my hair neatly behind my ear,"well..."
Suddenly kaidens phone began to ring as I sighed with relief at the distraction.
"Speak of the devil and he shall appear,"he mumbled under his breath.
He then glanced at me as if saying 'this conversation isn't over'.
"Hello?"as kaiden talked to Chris over the phone I drifted into deep thought.
What was I going to tell him? Hey, I'm having a fling with your bestfriend? No way. Kaiden will be pissed that he wasn't informed. Afterall I was his bestfriend.
I was snapped back into reality when a glass flew by my head.
"What the hell kaiden?!?!"
"We are leaving,"he grabbed my hand and yanked me out of my chair.
As soon as my heels touched the floor I heard a crunch. I looked down to see kaidens phone crumbled to peices on the floor. Huh. Guess I missed it. A strange sound escapes my lips as kaiden tugs on my arm to leave. I follow an angry kaiden out the door and to a beautiful car.
"What the hell is this?"
"A lynkan hypersport,"he stated as if it were obvious.
"Bipolar much,"I mumble under my breath at kaidens sudden mood change.
I immediately regret what I say as he swings around to face me,"bipolar?!?! No, kalani! Sometimes adults have to be realistic when serious situations come up!"
"No, kaiden,"I hiss,"what is realistic is acting mature and actually handling the situation instead of taking it all out on me!"
For a moment kaiden just stood their dumbfounded until he composed himself. I marched away and secluded myself in his car. I crossed my arms above my chest as I watched him walk around the car and slide in beside me. I didn't dare give him the satisfaction of glancing at him.
"I'm sorry,"he said after a few minutes.
"It's okay,"I sighed and relaxed a bit into the seat. Still slightly ticked at kaidens outburst.
"No, it's not,"kaiden clicked a button and the car roared to life. The entire ride home kaiden drove with his hands tightly gripping the steering wheel.
After what seemed like forever we arrived at kaidens house. In my opinion it was like a mini mansion but kaiden insisted it was a house.
After stepping out of the car and entering kaidens mini mansion I found myself a comfy seat on his couch. Immediately throwing off my heels and snuggling into a blanket which smelled like him. He raised an eyebrow at me but decided to say nothing and sat beside me. Good choice kaiden. Good choice.
"Kay Kay,"I groaned.
"Yes, kalani."
"Do I seriously have to ask you,"I eyed him.
He sighed,"look. I don't want you to get all worried and all but somehow the elders found out you know I'm a vampire."
"So what?"
"Soooo they plan on killing you."
"What why?!?!"
"To keep our secret safe and punish me for risking my kind being exposed."
"And how do you know this? How do you know the elders know about me?"
He smiled sheepishly,"well...,"he laughed,"Chris is a vampire too. He told me when he called. He said everyone is talking about it."
I stared at him in a daze. I can't beleive I'm sleeping with a vampire. A vampire i might possibly have feelings for.
Then I came back into reality and my heart began to thump viscously against my chest,"that means they're coming for me. Oh my gosh. Kaiden. What do we do. I don't want to die,"I began to rant as tears threaten to fall.
"Hey, shhhh,"he says softly. He pulls me into his lap and holds me.
"Don't worry. I won't let anything ever happen to you. I actually think I know a way around this but I don't know how your going to feel about it,"I looked up at him.
"What is it?"
He nibbled on his lip for a moment in thought,"maybe if I bring you to the vampire kingdom the elders will have to call off the punishment because technically I wouldn't be risking our secret if you were to stay in the vampire kingdom walls."
I looked at him in disbelief,"kaiden, your crazy. I'm not running towards the bull."
"No really. I think this might work and if it don't I'll be there to protect you okay?"
"Promise?"
"Sure. What are bestfriends for,"he smiled.
