Chapter 8

I paced my room. My hair swished behind me lightly kissing my shoulders as it swayed. I can't beleive what Cyrus had just implied. Me? Not completely human? The scary thing is, it kinda makes sense in a way. How else would i have been able to put a vampire on the ground so fast?

I sit down on my bed with uneasiness. What could I be part of? It's not like I can just call my parents and ask. I lived in a orphanage all my life. I bit my lip mulling over this new information. Suddenly kaiden comes running in my room causing me to jump and slice my lip open in the process.

"You scared me."

He sticks his nose in the air and breathes in,"your bleeding."

"I am," I silently steam since it was his fault.

In seconds he was on top of me pinning me down. I let out a squeak.

"Little human girls shouldn't bleed around big, vicious vampires kalani," he grinned toothily. Then he leaned down into my ear and whispered,"especially when they're hungry," a shiver ran down my back as I squirmed a little bit. Unable to move. When I stopped struggling our eyes made contact and he began laughing.

I glared at him,"what about little half human girls?"

This caught his attention. He picked me up and spinned us around and fell back onto the bed.

"What's that suppose to mean?"

"Well, I beat the shit out of Cyrus today. So he thinks I'm not completely human I guess," I shrug it off like it was nothing.

However kaiden was all ears,"this is great!"

"How?"I say slowly.

"This means with some training you'll actually have a fighting chance in the war!"he says a little to excitedly for my liking.

I scoff,"I would have had a fighting chance even if I was just human,"he looked at me bored.

"Kalani, as a human you are our natural prey. You wouldn't have made it."

"So, you were pushing me into a war you knew would mean my death," I stand up and stare him down in disbelief.

He stuttered,"N-No! All I'm saying is there was that possibility. The clairvoyant said you were a major part in the war so that must mean you do something to help in the war."

"Yeh! By dieing apparently!"

I find my way out of the room angrily. Leaving a dumbfounded kaiden behind.

Kaidens P.O.V

At first we were joking around an then before I knew it she was walking away from me angrily. Where do I even began to try to understand that woman.

With vampire speed I jump up from the bed and down the hallway in kalani's direction.

I embrace her. Not letting her go.

"I'm sorry,"I feel her tense and visibly stiffen.

"I-It's okay,"she says a little shocked with my sincerity.

I release her ever so slightly,"would u like to attend a meeting with me?"

"Would I!"she says in all excitement.

I chuckle at her.

"Come on. I dont want to be late,"I lead her down a hallway.

Now she will know what she is getting herself into. How serious this is.

Kalani's P.O.V.

Kaiden led me down a hall and through two big wooden double doors with intricate carvings.

I was so excited. Now I can see what this is really about and get in on the action.

Heck, I'm not training for nothing.

Kaiden sits in a seat at the very end of the table so I sit at the seat next to him. All eyes seemed to be on me.

Several glanced from me to kaiden and back.

Why don't they just say something if they don't want me here, geez.

I glance around at the room full of vampires. Trying to size them up. They all seemed to visibly shake. It was like they were under kaidens spell.

I wonder what he did to them?

These we're warriors we were talking about. Full grown men who fight in war. Men who could snap me in half and they were shaking? I eyed kaiden suspiciously. His eyes slightly shifted; aware of my presence.

"Let's begin gentlemen,"he stated and looked around the room before nodding in satisfaction,"I plan on asking the manticore and the centaur to aid us in the war because we have a common enemy, Chris Elton. Mr. Elton would assumably ally with the werewolves and the kelpie as they have done in the previous war with our parents. I refuse to let this become another fruitless war. If all works well we will meet on the battlefield. I plan on hiding the centaurs in the woods to trick the opposing side they have the upper hand. However, we will use explosives," a few murmurs sounds the room," yes, I know. This has never been done before and it could cause outrage and be called unfair but what war is? We will place the explosives in the ground so when the time is right they will go off causing them to flee into the woods and possibly even kill off a few in the process. The few survivors that do not flee will be surrounded by the the manticore and taken out. While this is taking place the centaur will be also surrounding the vampires who fled into the woods killing them off."

And what exactly are the vampires going to be doing.

Kaiden seemed to read my mind," at this time I will assure u that Mr. Elton will began to freak out thats when we come into the picture. After we locate Mr. Elton we will all then attack. Mr. Elton is no one to be played with. Even if we have a large number against him. He is swift and cunning and unpredictable. We have to be ready for anything." An uneasy feeling began in my stomach making me feel queasy and that was when it hit me.

We are going to kill people. We are going to kill Chris.

Blackness began at the edges of my vision as my fingers twitched and i began to get light headed. Kaidens words seemed to blur into the background.

I am going to be a killer.

Don't worry Kalani this is for a good reason. This is not your fault. My subconscious try's to soothe me.

"Kalani, are you okay?" I snap out of my trance.

"Yes, Yes, i'm fine. Why?" he eyes me carefully.

"You just don't look too good. Are you sure. I can send for the doctor," I look down and smile listening to the way Kaiden's 18th century accent began to show through when he is truly concerned for me or raging mad. Like that day we were in the car and kaiden and i were having an argument. He sounded exactly like an 18th century man but i was too angry to admire it.

"Im fine, thankyou. Its beginning to get late i think i need some rest," and with that i made my way out of the room with kaiden's eyes watching me ever so carefully.

Sorry nothing real exciting happened in this chapter but there was a lot of foreshadowing and details that I felt were very important for future chapters.
