Kalani's P.O.V.
It's been two months since I've started training with Cyrus. He says I'm doing great but the longer Chris doesn't attack the more I become anxious. Everyday I train harder and faster pushing my body to its limits. I haven't had much time to talk to kaiden lately. He has been equally busy training his warriors and preparing. However, he does find the spare time to train with me on the rare occasion, but I always feel like I'm taking important time away from him.
I haven't been feeling normal for the past few weeks. I've been acting ruthless almost like it is my first instinct. That is not who I am. I shocked myself the other day when I looked into the mirror. The amethyst in my eyes have nearly taken over all of the blue and my features have become more pointed and deadly. I almost looked like an assassin. Almost. Looks can be very deceiving after all.
I stood on my haunches in a very dark corner of the gym I train in with Cyrus. Not only was it a corner but it was in the corner of the ceiling. I sat upon a bar that stretched across the room and waited. I waited for a breathe, a blink, a whisper.
I watched as a sweat bead fell onto the floor with a plop. A smirk crept upon my face. The old man is becoming messy. In a blink of an eye I swung my sword around barley catching the edge of Cyrus shirt and revealing his tattoo. He swiftly backed up and lunged towards me when he saw his opening. Dropping my sword I slid between the bar I stood on and grabbed on with my hands. I swung around kicking Cyrus in the back causing him to fall to the ground. With one more swing I landed onto the floor next to Cyrus but he had already disappeared. I crouched down and picked up my sword warily. My eyes never leaving my surroundings. My ears pick up on a whistle when a knife flew by my head barely missing me.
Come on Cyrus. Quit holding out on me.
A hissing sound fills the air and I look behind me. The knife was plunged into a fog machine. It began to uncontrollably produce fog and take over the room.
Ah, so the knife wasn't meant for me.
My ears pick up a grunt and I lift my sword in defense as Cyrus's sword comes flying down upon me. I'm caught off guard when another sword comes jabbing at me from my right out of the fog. I push Cyrus's sword down onto the intruding sword deflecting it and I raise my leg to kick Cyrus. Suddenly another hand grabs my foot and pins me to the ground.
A familiar chuckle vibrates into my ear,"kaiden?"
"Your getting pretty good kalani. I actually had to put in some work."
"Kaiden your hurting me!" I scream in agony,"I think you broke my leg!"
I turn my head with tears swarming my eyes. I peek at him and alarm fills his eyes as he quickly let's me go.
That's when I take my opening and thrust my sword at him. I stopped when the silver grazed his skin. I heard him suck in air as he froze.
The room began to clear up as Cyrus came into view clapping his hands and chuckling .
"What did I tell you. She's my best warrior yet,"Cyrus clasped his hand onto kaidens shoulder.
Kaiden just stared at me with a startled expression.
"Her eyes," he stumbled,"they're completely amethyst."
I suddenly become self conscious.
So what? They were amethyst before too. What's the difference?
Cyrus looked down onto me and gave me a sheepish smile. Apologizing for kaidens words. In a way a father would.
I nod.
Suddenly a horrid beast with atrocious horns came screeching into the room. I readied myself on instinct and inspected the creature. His skin was blood red and he had a long demon like tail that trailed behind him when he flapped his powerful wings.
An imp. My subconscious reminded me. Out of every book I've read that's the only thing that came to mind that this creature could possibly be.
He held a scroll like object in his hands and dropped it onto kaiden and then he left as quick as he came. I eyed kaiden as I watched him catch it. He slowly rolled it open and his features became very serious.
He glanced at Cyrus who nodded in understandment as if they were having a silent conversation. Cyrus quickly ran off and kaiden faced me.
"What's going on?"
"Chris has declared war on us. He is to be here soon. Follow me,"I mindlessly did as he asked.
Is Chris really here? Can I finally get revenge? What if kaiden dies?
I look over at kaiden. Who also seemed to be deep in thought. I watched as his hair swayed back and forth and his red eyes gleamed with determination.
Then I won't let that happen.
