A couple weeks later, Professor Dumbledore called me to his office during my free period. Professor McGonagall took me up to the large door. Two gargoyles stood guard outside and as soon as we walked up to them, they began speaking.

"Password?" said the left one.

"Sherbert lemon," said McGonagall. The door swung open and I stepped inside.

"Ah Miss Matthews," said a voice. I looked up and saw an aging man sitting at a desk at the back of the room.

"Professor," I answered.

"I expect you're wondering why you are here," he said.

"Yes sir."

"Have a seat." I sat down in the hard backed chair in front of the mahogany desk. On the desk sat several quills and a stack of parchment.

"Let me tell you a story," he said. "One spring day a girl I once knew married a man I didn't expect. She traveled to America to start a family. Two children were born. One boy and one girl. Only one of them had magic. This magic coursed through her veins but when magic should have started to show, it did not. The mother was distraught. In her grief she crashed her broom accidently and left the father with a 1 year old and a baby."

"Professor, why would you tell me this?" I asked.

"That is your history," he answered.

"My history?" I asked, pointing to myself.

"Yes. You are dismissed." I stood up slowly, turned on my heel, and quietly left the office.

Later that night, I was sitting alone in Ravenclaw common room when I heard slight footsteps. Luna came down the stairs and sat next to me.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"Dumbledore told me why I am the only American to come to Hogwarts."

"I told him to tell you your history," she said. "I thought you deserved to know." I nodded.

"Thank you Luna."
