I was sitting down by the black lake doing homework during my free period when I saw the black dog again. The same one that had been in the hall the same night that Sirius Black had broken into the castle.

"Hey," I said to the dog. "You're Sirius aren't you?" The dog almost seemed to nod in the answer to that question. I looked around to see if anyone was there but it was a cold day. No one was outside. "You can shift now. I want to talk to you," I said.

I blinked and there was a man in rags of a prison outfit sitting right in front of me. "Hello Sirius," I said.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" he asked.

"Why are you targeting Harry?" I asked.

"I'm not targeting Harry," he said. "I'm after Ron's rat. The little bugger." I gave him a look that said I believed him but didn't know what he was talking about.

"Someone's coming," I said. He quickly transformed back into a dog and slipped away into the shadows of the trees right as Draco walked over.

"Who were you talking to?" he asked.

"No one," I said.

.__________.

Why would Sirius be targeting Peter Pettigrew disguised as Ron's rat? It made no sense. I knew that Sirius could not be in league with Voldemort. I didn't have a reason. I just knew.

"Laila!" I heard someone say. "Snap out of it!" I shook my head a little to clear my thoughts.

"What?" I said.

"You just seemed to be spacing out," said Draco. "Are you alright?"

"Yes I'm fine," I said. He nodded and went back to his homework. I was not fine. I knew this much. Sirius was innocent.
