GIRLS NIGHT
Ever since you had Darcy, the amount of time you spent with your friends has decreased. Now, unlike before, it wasn't often you went out with them for drinks and such. Actually, you hardly drank at all anymore. Part of being a mother means setting an example, and that's exactly what you've been doing. Even if Darcy wasn't old enough to understand.
But tonight, for just this once—not—, you had decided to make an exception. It's been far too long and you really needed it. Like always, Harry was understanding and supported your decision to go out and have fun. He'd take care of you twos' daughter. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?
The second you leave...
"I want mummy to come back," Darcy whines, looking into Harry's eyes. "Where did mummy go? Tell me." She uses her tiny hand to slap his chest.
"Don't worry, she's out with friends. It's like an adult playdate," Harry tries his best to assure the toddler in his lap. Seeing her worried like this made him feel terrible. There was only so much he could do. He could call you to prove his words to her, but that would then be ruining your night out.
"Daddy."
"What is it, munchkin?" He gently coos.
"When will mummy come back to us?"
"She'll be back later," he promises, placing a soft kiss to the top of her head. Upon feeling it, she looks up at him, eyes brimming with unshed tears. But she believed him. If he told her her mom was coming back later, then she was.
Darcy has always been able to trust him. From the moment she was able to communicate and comprehend, he made sure she knew she knew he would never dare lie to her. Just like you, he was big on trust.
After Darcy sniffles a few times, Harry stands up with her in his strong arms. "How about we get you a snack, yeah? What's that tummy craving?" He asks with a smile.
Now that her mind was off of you, food did sound pretty good right about now. "Crackers with cheese," she tells him. She squirms when she spots a toy on the floor. Harry carefully sets her down so she can occupy herself with it.
He proceeds to retrieve wheat crackers and a can of aerosol cheese from the pantry. On a napkin, he puts four crackers sprays a little swirl of cheese on each. That's the way she likes them prepared. It had to be precise. If it wasn't, that was a reason for her to fuss. Toddler logic sure could be a pain sometimes.
Once they look presentable enough, he puts the food on her high chair tray at the kitchen table. "It's ready, baby." He beckons and she hurries to him excitedly. He then lifts her up and straps her into the chair. "There you go. Eat up." He gently pats her back.
"Daddy sit with me?" She looks at him with wide, pleading eyes. There was no possible way he could say no to that. Only if he was heartless perhaps.
He complies by taking the seat beside her. "Is this good?"
She nods in response before shoving a cracker into her mouth and chewing it up. The cheese manages to get on her fingers and around her mouth. "I make mess, daddy," she says as if it wasn't obvious.
He chuckles. "It's ok. We'll clean you up later." He watches as she devours another one. The messes she makes never bother him. He knows that one day she won't be little and make them anymore, and that's bittersweet.
"Your fault," she says a few moments later.
"What?" Harry raises a confused brow.
"You did it," she tells him, giggling cutely. Her eyes were sparkling with amusement. At this point he knew she was messing with him.
He smiles at her accusation. "So I'm the one who did it even though you have cheese all over you?" Darcy nods her head and laughs.
"You're so silly," he teases.
"No you're so silly." She points a finger at him.
"No."
"Yes!" She exclaims in protest.
Eventually, Darcy finishes up her food and Harry cleans her up and then decides to give her a bath.
Although it's now past her bedtime, he lets her stay up because of how much she begged. She had him wrapped around her finger. They were currently laying on the couch and watching Disney Junior. Harry was far from interested in the show that was on, but he loved how much Darcy was enjoying it.
"Is mummy almost here?" She suddenly asks. "She's missing the show."
"She'll be back soon, baby," he tells her.
"Ok," She sighs and snuggles into him. "You feel like a pillow," she murmurs softly.
Harry smiles and runs his hand through her curly hair. "Looks like somebody's getting sleepy, huh?" He could see it. Darcy's eyes were no longer interested in the characters on the screen, but were beginning to close.
"No. I was—" A cute yawn cuts off her sentence.
"I told you so." He gently pokes her side and she tiredly giggles. "Let's get you to bed." And with that, he turns off the TV and hauls her up to her bedroom.

By the time you get back Darcy asleep in her bedroom and Harry is nearly asleep in the in the living room recliner. Getting her to go bed had been way harder than he thought it'd be. She ended up crying over you, but he managed to settle her by reading a book. It was one of her favorites, Where the Wild Things Are.
"I'm back," is what Harry hears upon feeling someone tap his thigh. "You need to go to bed, Mr.," you tell him with a smirk.
He rubs his eyes. "I know, babe. I was making sure you made it home safely," he explains himself.
You smile at how sweet him thinking to do that was. "Thanks."
"Anytime, love."
