"Happy Birthday to you!" Collins began.

Happy death day to me.

"Thanks. I really appreciate it," Ellie said, attempting to be sincere. A small box that was wrapped in colorful paper was handed to her. Inside lie a small watch. A pocket watch.
"Wow," she began. It was ancient looking, but still worked. It made her smile, Dr. Collins did an okay job at choosing a gift, because Ellie was rather picky.

"It's a weird gift, I know, but you like old things," he explained.

"I love it."

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

She sat alone, examining the pocket watch she received. Passing it softly between both hands and rubbing her thumb over the cold metal case. She jumped when a knock came from the door.

"Come," she said, still focused on the trinket.

In came Jack, who crossed over silently to her nightstand.

I thought we were done with you.

"Happy Birthday," he said quietly. His voice was more mellow and soft rather than the usual energetic Jack. He laid down his daily gift. A handful of-
"Dandelions," he said.
"I like ta call tem wish flowers." He picked two up and handed one to Ellie. "Look. You put one up ta your mouth like tis," he demonstrated. "You make a wish, and blow." He blew. He went over to his bean bag and sat down silently, smiling like his usual goofy self. Ellie examined the flower he handed her.

"Don't stare at me," she said softly.

He listened and looked in the other direction. She closed her eyes and blew the flower. She smiled at the sight of the it dispersing.

"What did ya wish for?" He was back to his energetic self. Almost like a chihuahua that had coffee.

"I wished you wouldn't ask me what I wished for, Jack."

He laughed and stood up. Ellie picked up another. "I've never seen one in real life," she said. "Only in pictures."

"Thank you." She said, smiling at him for the first time.

"I think this is the most you've ever talked to me," he said walking towards her. "Can I at least give you an awkward hug?" Jack asked.

Gag me.

She leaped off her bed and slammed against him in a very angry hug. Once Ellie realized what she was doing she refrained, blushing.

Nope.

"So, it's Halloween next week, and-"
"That's the one where people dress funny and get free candy?"
"Yes."
"Okay continue."
"So it's Halloween next week and I was wonderin' if you'd want to come to tis costume party wit me?"
"Well, Jack, I-"
"It doesn't have to be a date if you don't want it to. It's not like ah am professing mah love for ya or anyting. Unless you want me to of course-"
"Okay," Ellie interrupted before he could turn any redder.
He was shocked. "So it's a date?"
Ellie nodded.
"Well, tat went better tan I planned," he said walking out of the room.
