The night of the party Ellie sat on her bean bag and read a book in the light of the moon. She wasn't actually reading it, she was just flipping pages while Zero read it to her. She hated reading.
See. Isn't this fun?
"Spectacular."
You know your sarcasm hurts me, right?
"Mhmm."
Just flip the page.
They sat for an hour flipping pages and arguing. She pulled the gift from Dr. Collins out of her pocket. The small clock read 10:30. Every 15 minutes she would let out a long sigh and complain a little bit more.
"What are ya doing?" A comical Irish accent whispered. It scared her how he could sneak in without alerting her.
"What am I doing!?" She panicked. "What are you doing?!" She whisper-shouted.
"Why aren't ya gettin' ready?" He smirked.
"For the party?" Ellie said, confused.
"Duh, for te party!" He said, trying to keep his voice down. She smiled on the inside.
"I'm not sneaking out."
"It's not sneaking out if we walk out of te front door."
Ellie let the smile out of her.
Don't you dare.
Jack threw a plastic shopping bag at her. It was light and had something soft inside. He was carrying a bag himself.
"What's this?" She asked.
"Put it on and meet me by the kitchen," he said, leaving the room in a mission-impossible style. You're not actually considering going, are you?
"I'm feeling a little rebellious, yes."
It seemed like a very dumb question because obviously, yes, she was considering it. Ellie grabbed the bag off the floor and looked inside. It contained a fuzzy grey onesie with a zipper. She threw it on over her clothes and looked at herself in the mirror. It had large floppy ears and an elephant trunk that came off the top of the hood. No wonder she never celebrated Halloween. How embarrassing. You look terrible.
"I've never done anything like this before," she whispered.
You're going to get caught.
"I wonder what Dr. Collins would say."
Are you even listening to m-
"Nope," Ellie smiled. She threw her backpack over her shoulder and strutted out the door.
