"Ellie, they're going to take you!" A voice shouted from down the street.

"Uncle Charles?" Jack asked.

"Who's going to take me?" Ellie wondered aloud.

"We need to go. Get in Jack's car."

"Dr. Col-"

"You've got a child!?" Dr. Collins said, his voice shaky.

"She's not-"

"There's no time for explaining, the police are searching," Collins said to her Ellie, in a serious tone.

"We can't just leave her," Jack informed the others.

"Whatever, we need to leave right now."

Ellie nodded to Jack and walked back to Jack's car outside. Ellie sat in the backseat with little Maralyn while Dr, Collins drove away with Jack in the passenger seat.

"They were in the Institute when you left, and you're lucky enough to have cleared the scene by the time they checked your room," he grumbled, very angrily. He continued to lecture Jack in the front seat while Ellie dozed off in the back.

"Zero?" Ellie asked. There was no reply. "Don't give me the silent treatment." She waited for any indicator that Zero was listening. Nothing. She crossed her arms and continued to listen to the conversation up front.

"So where are we going?" Jack asked.

"I have a friend," he answered. "Similar to Ellie."

That explained why he was very good at communicating with Ellie.

"You know someone like me?" she interrupted.

"More or less," he shrugged. "He's had a friend like Zero."

"I don't understand. Why are we going there?"

"He learned to control his friend," Collins mumbled slowing down the car to a stop.
