Golden
"How about y'all stop, Jayda lets go" I said not wanting whatever this was, in my home. This wasn't the time or place for this at all.
"No, I need to say this" she took a breath.
"Jayda your clearly not taking your brothers death well so you should just take your kids and go" Claire spoke up, surprisingly in a soft voice.
"Oh I'm taking it very well, he was too ashamed to ever admit what happened. His life was spiraling out of control dealing with everything that had happened. He was never the same after that" Jaydas voice broke. She was on the verge of breaking down.
"Jayda what's going on?" Richard asked walking over to her as he eyed Claire. I didn't know if I should leave or go at this moment but something told me to stay.
Jayda
"Remember when you guys were living paycheck to paycheck trying to take care of us" I said taking a deep breath. Although this part of my life played in my mind everyday, I never spoke about it to another soul.
"Jayda!" My mother said in a warning voice.
"Claire I'm about sick and tired of you! What the fuck is wrong with you huh?" My dad snapped.
"I was about 11 going on 12 and Jay was 10 but we knew something was wrong. Mom started doing drugs and she had an affair, well affairs with multiple men"
My father closed his eyes and nodded.
"You went overseas for about a year so that you could make sure we were taken of" I added.
"I knew you mother had an affair , I just didn't know the extent of her it" he said looking at her.
"That's not all..." I said before taking that painful trip down memory lane.
"How you doing sweetie?" A man my mother brought home said as I walked by. A shiver went through my body as I looked at him. He was an older white man with really bad teeth. Since my father had been gone, my mother had brought a lot of friends by. Something told me, my father wouldn't be happy if he knew she brought these men over but she told me not to say anything.
I was about to continue walking but a shoe went flying at my head.
"You don't hear the man talking to you?" my mom yelled pulling the cigarette away from her mouth.
"Sorry" I mumbled not moving.
"That's okay sweetie, you can make it up to me, I'll see you around" the man answered back making me feel uneasy. I looked over at my mom who was looking at the man.
"Get out of my sight" my mother suddenly barked out making me run towards the stairs. I have them one last look before taking off to my room.
That was the day I met Brandon, unfortunately he kept his words and I saw him again, many times after that day.
_______
"Shh my kids are up here sleeping" my mom laughed walking past my bedroom. Jayceon and I were suppose to be asleep but we wanted to talk to our dad before we went to bed. He was away and wouldn't be back for a long time.
"I didn't come here for this" I heard a males voice say. I soon recognized the voice as Brandon.
"Brandon what are talking about?"
"I told you what I wanted and I told you if I didn't get what I wanted then I was gonna stop supplying you, helping you with these bills and I was gonna tell your husband. You know he'll leave your ass and take them kids"
My mother looked towards my room, I quickly moved back to so wouldn't see me. My room was pitch dark but I didn't want to risk being seen.
"I can give you anything else, please Brandon, ain't I enough for you?" I heard her plead.
"No now are you gonna let me get what I want or do I have to--"
"Fine just go in the basement" she said making him smile. I frowned wondering what they were talking about.
I watched his figure retreat down the stairs. My mother looked towards my room before turning and making her way towards Jayceons room.
I stayed quiet and saw her come back out with Jayceon who was clearly half asleep. He stumbled with his eyes half closed as my mother brought him down the stairs.
That night I couldn't sleep as I heard my brothers screams. I thought he was getting whooped but I later found out that wasn't what the basement was for.
______
"I heard somebody's turning twelve today" Brandon smirked walking around my room, my mother was downstairs passed out on the couch from her last high and Jayceon was locked away in his room. After that night he didn't act the same. He stayed to himself and got quiet whenever Brandon came around after that. My mother even let Jayceon go and stay with Brandon for a week.
"Yeah" I mumbled.
"What did you want for your big day?" He asked taking a seat on my bed. I stood up quickly and moved towards my bedroom door.
"I want my father to come home" I answered. My back was turned but I knew he had gotten up.
"Well I can't give you that but I got something else that's perfect for a big girl like you"
"What is it?" I asked turning around, my curiosity getting the best of me.
"It's a big secret surprise, you gotta come to the basement to see it" he smiled but his smiled didn't make you want to smile. His smile gave me the creeps.
"Will I like this surprise?"
"I think you'll love it, it's perfect for a pretty little princess like you" he said. I smiled a little thinking about what he possibly could've gotten me.
"Ok I wanna see it" I said hesitating a bit.
"Okay let's go" he smiled grabbing my hands. He opened my room door and lead me to the stairs. I turned my head and saw Jayceon standing in his doorway looking terrified. I gave him the hand signal telling him to follow but he only shook his head.
That was my first night in the basement.
