Later that night, you're sitting on your bed with your hands over your ears. Dipper sits next to you, his hands in the same position. He's trying to hold the journal open with his elbows, because if he moves his hands, his eardrums might explode.
"That's it!" you yell, but over the Several Times music, it's barely a whisper. "I'm turning it off!" you get up and start moving towards the boom box, trying to dodge the dancing figures in your way. You get elbowed in the head, kneed in the side, and your feet get stepped on twice. Once you finally reach it, you hastily yank the plug out of the wall. The girls stop dancing and turn to stare at you with disapproving looks.
"Can you please," you say, trying to remain calm. You take a deep breath. "Can you please stop playing the music. It's 10:00 and me and Dipper haven't gotten through a single page."
Mabel walks over and whispers something to Candy and Grenda, causing them to giggle.
"Fine, I guess we can read the novels now," Grenda sighs, picking up one of the books from the floor. The three girls sit down on Mabel's bed, and Grenda starts reading. "I'm Fabio, creature of the night. But i'm also a creature of passion." The girls laugh, and you roll your eyes.
"Alright," Dipper says. "Thanks for that."
"No problem," you say, turning back to the journal. "Okay. So the ghost in the store had to have either been a category 4 or 5, because it was able to manipulate gravity." you tell him.
"Correct. However, only categories 5 and up are able to burst into flames when angry, so this ghost must have been a-"
"Category 5," you finish.
"Yep." Dipper says. "That's the one."
You then realize that you can't hear Grenda reading any more. You look up from the book to see that the three girls have disappeared from Mabel's bed. In fact, they don't seem to be anywhere in the room. You slowly reach over and tap Dipper on the shoulder. He looks up, and you gesture to the empty bed. His eyes go wide, then his eyebrows draw together in confusion.
You carefully stand up and move to the middle of the room, and Dipper follows. You stand back to back, moving in a circle and looking for any sign of the girls.
You listen intently. You hear the faintest laughter coming from the closet. Dipper must hear it too, because he looks at you and points in that direction. You slowly tip-toe over, an place your hand on the doorknob. You hold up three fingers, then two, and on one you yank open the door, only to be ambushed by three shrieking forms.
You're pinned down, and can feel them smearing goop all over your face. "mmrrfff!" you try and speak, but someone's hand is covering your mouth.
When they finally pull away, you sit up, only to see Dipper with a bunch of cheep makeup on his face and blue spray in his hair. You realize that you must look the same. Mabel, Candy, and Grenda start laughing, and you glare at them.
"That's it." you say, whipping the makeup off. "Dipper, we're going to the roof."
"But it's pouring outside." Candy states, and you hear a clap of thunder.
"Then we'll use my tent." Dipper tells them, and walks out of the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's the middle of the night, and you and Dipper have read every detail of every page in the entire journal, even though half of the pages are blank. You're in Dipper's tent, near Wendy's hideout on the roof. It's pouring rain, the tent is soaked, and it's freezing, so you're both wearing layers apon layers apon layers.
You hear shrieking come from the bedroom room, and Dipper looks at you.
"This is still better." he says.
