For the longest time, Sophie only saw Tam as a brother-like figure. Which wasn't really true, considering that she had a teensy little crush on the pale eyed Shade. I mean look at him, how can anyone not have a crush on him, even if it's the smallest thing? A/n: I'm obsessed with tam freaking song. Literally my bio was 1# tam song trash lol
I guess it wasn't surprising, she was apparently obvious about it, according to Biana and Linh.
"My brother hasn't been this happy in a long time," Linh hummed happily, carefully brushing Sophie's hair. A/n: just imagine her humming. It's so calming.
"Why is that?" Sophie asked, very curious.
"He was just grumpy all the time. Never smiled. But whenever he's around you, he's all nice and patient. Quite interesting, if you ask me."
Biana laughed. "Sophie has had so many difficulties with boys, I can't wait to see this!" A/n: we all know it's true
"What is that supposed to mean?" Sophie accused. She went bright red, thinking of Fitz going off with some other girl at school (one of his fangirls) and Keefe taking an interest with Biana.
"It's no big deal... We've all been rejected a few times, Sophie," Biana reassured, like that helped.
Sophie looked away, trying to cover her flaming cheeks as she repressed the memories of humiliation. "Tam is just like a brother."
"Tell that to the google-y eyes you give him when he's in the room," Linh laughed, then high-fived Biana.
"It's obvious that I'm not going to win here."
With a chime-like ring, Sophie's Imparter rang from her bag. She raced to get it, and swiped to see none other than Tam Song on the stone that showed his face.
"Hey Sophie," Tam greeted with a small smile.
"Hello," Sophie greeted back, walking swiftly to the door to get away from Biana and Linh's giggling. "Are you looking for your sister?"
He nodded.
"She's at my house. Biana is here too," Sophie added. "Let's hang out tomorrow."
"Like... Both of us? Or...?" Tam asked.
"I can call up Biana and Fitz and Dex and--"
"Oh... Okay. I'll be there tomorrow. Send my sister back with all of her limbs please because there is always an adventure with you, Sophie Foster."
She laughed lightly. "Yes there is. I'll see you tomorrow, Tam."
"See you."
And with that, they ended the call.
_____________TIME SKIP TO TOMORROW____________
Tam and Linh never showed up.
Sophie couldn't think of a reason why they would ditch, I mean, it's not like they were upset with each other. Right?
"I'm sure they forgot, Sophie," Keefe said, interrupting her thoughts.
"I know, I know... But I've tried calling them a few times and they won't pick up. Actually it says they are unavailable, and that only happens--"
"We know. I'm sure they forgot Imparter somewhere. Don't worry, it's just a missed call," Biana assured.
Sophie argued with herself in her head that night.
Why would they not answer the calls? We've Imparted before... Maybe this doesn't have to do with the Imparter.
______________ANOTHER TIME SKIP TEEHEE_____________
After the 3rd time calling Tam, Sophie groaned and fell back on her bed. She stared at the ceiling, feeling her eyes water.
The one guy I thought I had a chance with, let's me down. Not very surprising.
"You know what, Sophie?" Sophie said aloud at the ceiling. "No. You're not gonna play the pity card on yourself."
She dialed one last time, hoping that he'd answer this last one. It rang... And rang... And rang... And rang... Until:
"Sophie!" Tams voice whispered. The screen was black.
She blew out the breathe she'd been holding. "Tam! Why haven't you--"
"Sophie listen to me," Tam whispered urgently. "The Neverseen took Linh."
"What?--" She felt panic
"I've been chasing after them and I'm right outside the hideout. Don't tell anyone I'm here, Sophie."
"Why? You're sister needs help--oh my gosh--"
"If you tell anyone they'll kill her, Sophie. Think about it, if they know I'm here, they'll use her as bait. And I can't let anything happen to her. She's my sister. So if you let the Black Swan know, they'll send agents and they will probably kill her if they attack. And you know Mr. Forkle, he'll take that chance. And she'll be gone for good. Please, I beg you, don't tell anyone. Please, Sophie," Tam begged through the darkness.
She felt horrible, like she was gonna be sick. This all just happened so quickly, and she had no idea.
"Tam--"
"I know. Me too."
"Please save Linh and come back safely, promise me."
"I promise," Tam whispered, his silver bangs gleaming through the darkness. "I've got  to go, Sophie."
"Okay."
And he ended the call. And all she could do was sit there. She couldn't do a thing, and she hated feeling useless. The only thing she could do was watch from her Spyglass.
And if course she got no sleep that night. But the worst part... She couldn't tell anyone. It was heart wrenching.
_____________OH LOOK ANOTHER TIME SKIP_____________
He hadn't called her all night. She called him so many times she lost count, but he still didn't answer her desperate calls.
"Where's Tam and Linh?" Biana had asked her that day.
"Oh uh... Tam called me to say they were feeling sick," Sophie panicked. She mentally slapped herself for that petty excuse.
"Oh well let's go see them--" Biana suggested, getting up from the bed.
"No!" Sophie nearly yelled. "He didn't want anyone to visit anyone, even me."
"Oh," she said, sitting back down. She watched Sophie with a tilted he a and squinted eyes.
"You wanna invite Keefe and Fitz over?" Sophie asked, trying to get away from the 'Tam and Linh' subject.
"Sure."
Sometime during teaching the boys how to play Clue, Imparter ringed. Grabbing it before Keefe could steal it and prank him, Sophie saw it read Tam Song in bold print.
"Tam! Is everything alright?" Sophie whispered urgently, racing down the hall to get some privacy. "You haven't picked up at all last night!"
"Well who do we have here? Sophie Foster, I haven't seen you in some time," a cruel voice laughed. The screen focused on a scarred face that was too familiar.
"Brant!" Sophie gasped. She stumbled down the stairs and raced into Jolie's room, locking the door behind her. "What did you do to Tam?"
"Oh yes the boy, very brave, very brave... Trying to save to his sister, but I'm sure you know that," he smiled wickedly. "I'm sorry to say that he is no longer with us."
"What do you mean?" Sophie demanded.
"How else would you like me to put it? He is gone, not present... Dead?" He laughed, filling the silent from with a horrible sound.
A wave of dread washed over Sophie. Was it true? Was... Tam Song dead?
"You're lying," Sophie choked, trying all her might he wasn't telling the truth.
"I am not. Well, if you dint believe me, how about you come and find out?"
"I will," she said, not even realizing she didn't think about it.
"Well I guess it would be nice to give back his body. He was very handsome, but too bad he's dead."
"He's not dead."
"Why would I lie to you now?"
He did have a point. There was no point... Unless...
"Fine. At the Crooked Forest. Midnight." And with that she hung up the phone and walked back to the room close to tears.
____________MWHAHAHAHA LOOK AT ALL THESE TIME SKIPS___________
Brant never showed up.
"Where is he?!" Sophie shouted though gritted teeth.
"He's not here..." A voice whispered.
Sophie screamed so loud the branches shook.
"Tam?!" She screeched, running to him with a hug.
"Yeah," Tam whispered in her ear. "I'm so sorry I worried you, Sophie." He hugged her tightly, but only with one arm.
That's because he only had on arm.
"What happened?" Sophie cried as she held his hand.
"You don't want to know." That's when she noticed his condition. His face was bloody and cut, his arm was wrapped with a stained cloth where it ended (just a little off the shoulder), and his clothes were ripped.
"I'm so sorry."
"You didn't do anything."
"Wait.... Where Linh?"
"They..." He said, not looking into her eyes. "It was too late.'
She waited for him elaborate, maybe even cry but no. He just stood there, staring at her with empty eyes. She felt her heart break. Her best friend was dead.
"I'm sorry, Tam." She wrapped her arms around him again.
"I'm sorry too," Tam whispered. "I couldn't save her. I couldn't save my sister and your best friend."
And they stood there. Hugging and gripping each other in the dead of night.
