15: Dark Flight Down

I turned around slowly, unsure if I should smile or not. When I eventually faced him I felt my mouth quite literally drop open. He was wearing a black shirt with black trousers and black shoes. The only colour in his outfit was the bright red tie fastened awkwardly around his neck, as if he didn't actually know how to tie it properly. His eyes were rimmed with black eyeliner, making them stand out against his pale skin. It wasn't until I noticed him smirking a little that I realised I had been staring. I tried to collect my thoughts, desperately trying to remember why it was I had turned to face him in the first place.

"G-Gerard," was all I eventually managed to say, smiling at him a little.

He visibly relaxed and returned my smile as he spoke.

"Can I have a word with you please? You don't need to worry Mikey, you can have your friend back in a minute, I'm not going to do anything to him."

The last bit was added on as Mikey had started to speak, perhaps about to protest to Gee taking me away so soon after I had arrived.

"I'll come with you Gee, as long as it doesn't take all night – I do want to talk to Mikey as well you know."

He raised an eyebrow in response, before turning and walking out the room.

"I think you're supposed to follow him," Mikey muttered as I stared after his brother, still slightly dumbfounded.

"Oh, right...okay. Er, I'll see you in a minute right?"

"Actually I wouldn't worry about it. I know I invited you but it was only because Gerard asked me to. I have homework to do anyway, so if you just want to spend the time with him that's fine by me."

"Wow, thanks Mikey, I appreciate it. I'll see you later."

"Yeah, okay."

Even as he spoke I was practically out the room, following Gee, who had stopped at the top of a dimly lit flight of stairs.

Once I joined him there he nodded once, as if to himself, then walked confidently down the stairs and through the door at the bottom, stopping to hold it open for me.
***
It was immediately obvious that this was Gee's room, although it was not what I had expected.
His bed, which was neatly made, had a Star Wars cover on it, complete with a pink pillow. There were two book cases on the far wall – one full of books, most of which had titles I didn't recognise (if I did it was because they were the sort of classics that are taught in every school across the country). The other was filled with neatly stacked piles of comic books, CDs and records, with albums from bands of all genres, although they were predominantly forms of rock.

Across from the book cases was an impressively tidy desk, with pots of pens, pencils and paintbrushes gathered neatly in the corner. A pile of sketchbooks and notebooks lay on the floor beside an easel with a half completed drawing of a dark haired person on it.

The walls were almost completely covered in posters. I recognised band members, album artwork, and song lyrics. Others appeared to be prints of famous paintings – there was a blue sky that I vaguely thought might be Van Gogh. Scattered in between these were drawings of what looked like comic book characters, all with the signature "GWay" scrawled in the corner.
I turned to face him again, lost for words for the second time that night.

"This is... this is incredible. I don't know what to say."

"In that case, perhaps it's better that you let me do the talking. Sit down somewhere."

After I sat down carefully on his bed, slightly uncomfortable as he remained standing, he smiled a little.

"Are you sitting comfortably? Good. Then let's begin."
