Rose ran down the cramped corridor, fear flowing through her veins. She heard the growling voice growing close as she darted left, running down another corridor. There were no doors to escape through. The only lighting was dim from lights lining the floor. There was a musty smell that seemed to burn it's way into Rose's memory.

"Doctor!" She screamed in terror as she felt a cold hand grab her shoulder.

"Welcome to the games," the voice growled at her. Then everything went dark.

-

"Wiyn is known for it's magicians. I've heard many stories in my lifetime about their great tricksters, although I have never been myself. It's a first for the both of us." The Doctor explained while putting on his coat. His blonde, beautiful Rose watched him with a gleam in her eyes he couldn't quite place.

"You'll fit right in, then." Rose smiled.

"What do you mean?"

"The greatest of the greatest tricksters in the universe, the one and only Doctor." Rose burst out laughing and the Doctor pretended to be upset at her words. In reality, her laugh melted his hearts and he had to hold back from grabbing her and-

He cleared his voice and turned to the door. "I suppose we will find out, then."

-

"It's obvious, isn't it?" The Doctor asked. At the dubious look on Rose's face, he realized it wasn't, for her. "The candle was really coiled paper, which made it easy to press down and hide in his palm, while pulling the cloth out from his palm." A light seemed to go off in Rose's brain and her mouth made the shape of an "o".

"That makes so much sense, now." Rose said, in awe. "I could never move my hands so quickly and deftly."

They were walking through a market with street vendors selling all kinds of souvenirs from the magic show and other local things. As they headed down the curvy road, a wooden stage appeared at the end. People were on it, and others down below were gathering behind a wall that surrounded the stage and surrounding areas. As they got closer, two soldiers dressed in green gave them red tickets with numbers on them and shoved them through the gate.

The Doctor caught Rose from falling into the mud. "Are you okay?" He asked her.

"Yeah, I'm okay. What was that about?" Rose asked, a worried look on her face as she looked through the gate at the outside world.

"I don't know." The Doctor said darkly. He was looking at the stage and a worried look was on his face. "But this is all ringing a bell that I don't like."

-

A little while later, a man walked to the front of the stage and began to talk in what looked like a blue circular device. It was their version of a microphone Rose soon found out when his overly cheery voice boomed over the small crowd amounted inside of the wall.

"Hello and welcome all. You have been randomly selected to be the crowd this year's gamers are going to be chosen from. I am your host, Cadmium Loss. It is now time to choose the six gamers. Please pull your red slip with your number on it out." There was a rustling throughout the crowd as everyone anxiously pulled out their slips. By the looks on other's faces, this was not something good.

"Doctor? What's going on?" Rose whispered to the tall man beside her.

"I think this is a version of the Hunger Games." His dark voice scared her.

"The what?"

"It's a book series from Earth. Children are pitched against one another in a fight to the death until there is one winner." Rose looked shocked and scared.

"Time for the first person!" Cadmium's voice rang out. Rose looked at hers. 6D-7LK. The Doctor's: 1-34G-9K. "5-65H-4S." A cry rang out over the crowd as a brown haired woman fell to the ground in tears. The Doctor and Rose looked at each other. "3F-1EW." A man grit his jaw as he and the woman were pulled on stage. "2-59Q-5O." A blonde girl who couldn't have been older than 6 was soon pulled on stage too. "7N-3YV." A teenage red haired boy stepped forward and was guided on stage. Everyone on stage looked heart broken and Rose felt a pang in her chest. The Doctor watched intently to see what was happening. He had no real evidence this was anything bad, yet. "9-23D-6K." A teenage girl stepped up, standing strong, despite the tear that streamed down her cheek. "6D-7LK." Rose's eyes widened in shock. She didn't know what to do. But she didn't want to get on the bad side of those soldiers so she stepped to the front of the crowd.

"Rose!" She heard the Doctor try to follow her, but didn't get a chance to look back as she was dragged on stage.

This is bad. She thought. Really bad.
