Well... today was pretty much the same as any other day in high school.
I was, again, surrounded by cussing, violence, perversion, and all kinds of other depressing things.
Not sure how I've made it this far into the year... well, actually I am. I have God with me.
Maybe it's God's nature coming out inside me, but today I found myself thinking about how mean people can be. I mean, there's kind of a limit, isn't there? When you say something so mean about somebody else that the room goes silent and somebody says, "You took it too far, man." Well, I think that fine line between "acceptable mean comments" and "taking it too far" is getting blurrier with each passing generation. If you were to call someone gay to their face ten years ago, that would be an immediate detention and/or referral to the office. Now, the teacher just sighs, shakes their head, and moves on with class.
Why is it funny to make fun of people?
What is it in us that makes us laugh at others?
What is "ugly," and why is it so wrong and repulsive?
Why is it so hard to go talk to the freak sitting in the back of the classroom?
Some people make me wonder.
