One of the joys of having a family that was rarely home, was the quiet. Camila never really had to worry about going home to a loud house where she couldn't get anything done, considering she was the only person inhabiting it majority of the time.
It made it that much easier for her to disconnect from society every once in a while. Some weekends she would only leave her phone on to receive phone calls. Other than that, she had her laptop playing music everywhere she went and a book in her hands.
That Saturday she had been especially looking forward too. A kitchen stocked with new groceries and she had just bought the 1975's album on vinyl. People used to worry about her when she'd go MIA for a few days, not responding to texts or snapchats. But they eventually caught on to the fact that they could reach her by phone call, though they knew to leave her be when she decided to shut the world out.
It wasn't because she was sad, or angry, necessarily. It was just because Camila was different. She was extremely social and she loved people, but at the same time she needed copious amounts of time to recharge so that she could be at her best around others. So, sometimes she isolated herself completely and it helped.
That being said, Camila was never opposed to people coming over to her house on those days. She just felt so much pressure to use social media or devices in general, and to always reply, or keep a streak on snapchat, or do some other thing to please everyone else. It got to be too much sometimes. Her friends learned this, through Lauren's first hand experience of taking a chance and visiting her.
It was rare, however. They knew she needed time to recharge before facing the world once more. For that, she'd be forever grateful. She had a group of friends that knew how to read her extremely well.
Camila wasn't necessarily in need of disconnecting that weekend, but it was nice. So she found herself waking up and going downstairs immediately to make a cup of tea, hips swaying to Matt Healy's angelic voice.
Sofi was staying with a friend for the weekend and her parents were off on separate business trips. This, obviously, resulted in a day full of long shirts and no pants.
When she finished fixing her tea just right, she turned to put it on the kitchen island, nearly dropping the cup out of terror when her phone began ringing. She set the tea down before looking at her cellphone with a frown; one that quickly turned into a smile when she saw the contact name and photo

"Hey, Lo." She said, grin evident in her voice.
"Hi. What's up?"
"Nothing much. Just about to drink some tea. Why?"
"Are you up for company?" Came the hopeful voice of her- well, Camila didn't really know what to call Lauren.
"I'm always up for company. As long as it's yours."
"Cutie. Well, wanna maybe open the door then?"
Camila's brows furrowed before she realized what Lauren meant. "Oh! You're here? Hold on." She scurried to open the door to reveal a smiling Lauren, looking adorable as hell in her grey beanie. It was then that she realized she still had no pants on and was so close to running into her room to change. But then she realized, who gives a fuck? It was her day, and Lauren didn't even give it a second thought either way. She wanted to be comfortable.
So she grabbed Lauren's hand and guided her into the kitchen after locking the door. After making the older girl a cup of tea and seeing that Lauren brought a book and some snacks, they went up to Camila's room without another word. Lauren sat on the bed first, cross legged. Camila followed, sitting next to her with her back against the headboard. Lauren put her and Camila's cups of tea on the nightstand next to her before opening the package of cookies she brought.
They didn't talk, not really. Lauren was immersed in re-reading To Kill A Mockingbird, and Camila was focusing on getting through The Bell Jar. The only time words were exchanged was when Camila asked Lauren to pass her tea.
Eventually, she found herself laying down with her head in Lauren's lap as the older girl mimicked her earlier position of back against the headboard and legs straight out in front of her. It gave Camila such a comfort to know that Lauren wanted to be with her, even if it was just to sit in silence and read individually. Just being in the older girl's presence was calming and Camila couldn't have been happier that Lauren decided to visit her.
No words were needed between them, and Camila found that somewhat endearing.
