I See You

Words: 9447

Summary: Dan is jealous of his older, popular brother and fancies his girlfriend. However there's always been someone who cared about Dan - even if he is the best friend of Dan's brother.

Phil pulled up at the Howell residence and beeped the horn. Not only a minute later, Dylan Howell burst through the front door and jogged up to his car, jumping in. "Hey buddy." Dylan grinned toothily and chucked his school bag unceremoniously in the back. At that moment, Phil caught Dylan's younger brother, Dan, leaving the same house and starting to walk down the path.

"Shouldn't we invite Dan? He is your brother." Phil suggested and Dylan sighed and rolled his eyes.

"Ugh, why are you so nice?" Dylan complained, wrinkling his nose at the thought of riding with his little brother. "Yeah, whatever." He shrugged and started scrolling through his phone.

"Hey Dan!" Phil called and Dan turned round in surprise as Phil pulled up beside him. "Do you want a ride to school?" Phil offered kindly.

Dan bit his lip in contemplation, "Are you sure?"

"Of course, jump in." Phil dismissed and Dylan rolled his eyes again. Dan hesitated before jumping in the back of Phil's car. It only took ten minutes then they were pulling into the school car park.

Dan mumbles a 'thank you' when he gets out and they split ways. Dylan and Phil joined the popular footballer clique whilst Dan joined his arty theatre geek friends. Dan glared in jealousy at his brother who had it all - the looks, the body, the status, the friends and the girlfriend. Admittedly Dan fancied Joy - Dylan's girlfriend as she was really nice, a cheerleader and head of the theatre department. Not to mention she was gorgeous with her long black hair and bright blue eyes. Dan liked that she was pretty, down to earth and liked theatre like he did.

"Dan stop drooling." PJ chuckled and Dan laughed, swatting his best friend away.

"I wasn't!"

"Yeah right! Whenever you zone out you're always thinking of Joy." PJ smirked.

"Shut up!" Dan blushed, picking at the grass.

"No denial, seriously though, it's your brother's girl - try and control yourself." Louise jumps in. Dan rolled his eyes.

"Don't worry I won't ruin my perfect brother's life. As if Joy would ever  go for me anyway." Dan sighed, feeling his usually self deprecation creep in.

"You're awesome Dan, don't say that!" Louise frowned, pinching Dan's side. Dan jerked away with a yelp.

"If you peeled your gaze away from Joy for a second you might find that there is a whole line of girls waiting to get in your pants." Jack adds.

"Yeah right, if that happened it would only to be to get close to Dylan." Dan argued.

"Stop putting yourself down! You're just as, if not more, handsome than Dylan." Louise smirked, pinching Dan's cheek.

"You sound like a mum." Dan chuckled, pulling his cheek from her grasp and dismissing her comment. The bell rang and they headed for class. The first two classes passed fairly quickly and Dan and his friends were soon back on the grass discussing the up and coming play.

"Ooh, Lester alert." Louise suddenly announced. Dan turned and sure enough, Phil Lester was walking towards Dan and his friends. Admittedly, Dan liked Phil's company as he was super nice and made sure he felt included when Dylan and his friends couldn't be bothered. Also he was Joy's brother.
