A Fourth of July Special

Edge of the Hudson River, Weehawken, New Jersey.

July 11, 1804.

"This is insane!" I yelled as I sailed across the Hudson River with my brother in a small dingy brown boat. If this was what it was all going to come to, then it was a bit of a let down.

"Well, would you rather do it? We can switch," Harry, my older twin brother suggested.

I was silent for what seemed to be an eternity.

"I will. You have a family. You have kids, Harry," I told my brother as my green eyes stared off sadly into the distance.

"George wouldn't want you to do this," Harry told me, putting his hand on my shoulder.

"Yes, well, he's dead. It doesn't matter what he wouldn't want me to do. The man I love is dead," I calmly stated, my voice choking up towards the end.

My husband, George Weasley, had been a victim of a misfiring of a spell out of another's wand a few years ago. He had fought in Yorktown, and it was a shame that he had survived that and not a spell.

We had planned to have children, as we had just married two years before his death. Neither of us had the chance to become a couple with children.

"We're here," I told Harry, courage suddenly making its way into my body.

I climbed out of the boat, careful not to get my dress wet. Harry handed me my wand and gave me a tight hug. The outcome of this was uncertain, nobody would find out who would live and who would die.

I slowly made my way to the designated spot. My opponent was already at her side.

Lavender Brown had given me a hard time for as long as I could remember. We despised each others guts, and all of that hate towards one another finally led to her challenging me to a duel. I couldn't pass it down. Being seen as weak wasn't my favorite thing to do.

"Shake hands," the moderator, Lee Jordan spoke to us both.

We came closer and held out hands out. A firm grip nearly cut off my circulation.

Once the two of us were back to our designated spots, Lee Jordan spoke into his wand (he had put a charm on it so it acted as a microphone).

"Good luck. You may begin," he spoke, a hint of nervousness in his voice.

I took a deep breath. This was it. I could either die or live.

I'm not sure what caused me to do my next action, but I put my wand straight out into the air above my head. A violent red spark came out of the tip.

I couldn't do it. I couldn't kill her. I'm not a murderer.

I saw Lavender Brown cast a spell and saw it shoot out of the tip of her wand that gave out a blue hue.

The blue light came towards me at a speed that was impossible for me to stop, I couldn't cast a shield charm. It was too quick.

I felt something hit me in the abdomen. I fell back as I creed out in pain.

"AGHHHH!" I yelled.

I glanced down at my abdomen. The blue spell had hit my body right where nearly all the necessary  organs were located.

Blood was spilling out of me, and I felt myself going pale. Everything hurt.

"MADISON!" I heard Harry call out to me, his voice full of agony. He rushed over to my side and his green eyes went wide at the sight of me.

"Harry... It's been a good run, right? Our lives?" I croaked, feeling very tired all of a sudden. I felt the desire to close my eyes suddenly creep up on me.

"It's even amazing. You can't go. Don't you dare die on me! Not today!" Harry told me, his eyes wet with tears.

"Do you remember what I said? History has its eyes on you. Don't forget that," I managed to gasp out, pain flooding through me.

"But this isn't fair! Why is this happening!" Harry screamed at the sky.

"Harry... You have no control on who lives, who dies, who tells your story."

"I love you Madison," he cried.

"I love you too Harry," I breathed out before closing my eyes, unable to keep them open anymore.

So, happy belated Fourth of July!

The reason I wasn't able to get this out on the actually fourth was because I was at Clear Lake, Iowa with my family and grandma and aunts and uncles and cousins.

There was no reception there ugh.

But I'm back in my humble small town in northern Illinois.

So this special is based a little off the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.

I guess I'll put the song "The World Was Wide Enough" for you guys to listen to when you read it.

Happy fourth!
