Madison Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Chapter 29: Three Fundamental Truths: Number One

When Dumbledore used his fancy apparition skills to bring us to the cave, I felt like my body was sliding through a tube that was way too small.

When we reached the cave, I took a look at my surroundings.

The cave itself seemed to be dark and rocky; sharp rocks were in the water below, and if you fell off the ledge, you'd probably be killed by the rocks below if you hadn't died from the fall.

Overall, it just seemed to be very unsafe.

"They'd bring kids from an orphanage here?" Harry stated, disbelief evident in his voice.

"It's a great place for children to a picnic," I snorted, sarcastic.

Dumbledore ignored us both.

"Yes... This is the place..." He trailed off once we got closer to the owning of the cave.

We began to enter the cave.

"I think we need to give a payment to enter," Dumbledore said, putting his arm inside of his robes. He pulled out a short silver knife that one would use to chop up ingredients in Potions.

"Payment?" I asked.

"I don't have any money on me, sir, and neither does Madison," Harry told the old man.

I nodded in agreement.

"Not money," he said, his eyes no longer holding a sparkle. "Blood."

"Blood. That's it, this is crazy, blood as a payment?" I stated in disbelief.

"The idea, of course, as I am sure you've gathered, is that your enemy must weaken him- or herself-" he said when he saw my pointed look. "-to enter. Lord Voldemort seems to not know that there are more terrible things than physical injury..."

"Yeah, but if you can avoid it..." I said. I've already had enough pain in my sixteen years of life. I didn't need anymore.

"Professor! I'll do it!" Harry exclaimed.

"Thank you, Harry, but I'm afraid that you and Madison have much more precious blood than I do," he said, cutting part of his arm.

He wiped the blood on the rock.

There was a sudden opening to the cave that I had not seen before. It was total darkness.

"Lumos," I muttered as we walked in, my wand lighting up. The other two followed my example.

We were standing on the edge of a lake, and it was quite creepy.

"Don't step in the water. Please, stay close to me," Dumbledore commanded.

We walked around the edge of the lake.

"Do you think the Horcrux is here?" Harry asked.

"I'm sure it is, Harry," the ancient male began. "The question is, how do we get it?"

I felt my green eyes lighten up.

"I know! Accio Horcrux!" I proclaimed.

An explosion noise took place, and something popped out of the water and started coming towards us, but suddenly stopped.

"Something was bound to happen if we made an obvious attempt to get our hands on the Horcrux. Very good idea, Madison, but unfortunately it will not work," Dumbledore told me, a sense of pride and sadness in his eyes.
