I walked silently with Sorrel and Storm, not wanting to talk at the moment. I was too shaken from that battle that I had with Fire. What caused him to do all those things at me? What was it with those unnatural eyes I saw when I faced him? Did he really mean those things? So many questions were going through my head. I didn't want to tell my friends, I was worried doing that would get them into more trouble than I could imagine...
"Ok spill it Leaf, something happened in that room that wasn't supposed to happen. " Storm said as soon as they reached their houses. Sorrel leaned over to me, "You don't have to always hide everything, Leaf. You could tell us. " she said softly. I felt pain come across me when I moved towards the idea to tell them what happened. I suddenly knew they would face worse if I let it go.
"I-I can't guys. I'm sorry, I just can't. " I said running to my house and slightly slamming the door hiding from the tears threatening to come out. "Are you happy now?" I asked harshly to whatever that was giving me uncontrollable pain. I heard the faintest hint of laughter near me and a simple answer of, "Yes."
I knew that was a bit rude for me to just leave my friends without a goodbye, but I didn't want to cause them any pain. They were my best friends. Rather have me suffer than have them suffer anything at all.
I sat on my bed for a few minutes looking into the virtual reality night sky. I suddenly felt homesick and I had the huge urge to go to my mom and give her a big hug. I lie down on my bed, silently sobbing. I was worried. I was worried that I was truly enjoying the world that my friends and crushes were brought into, instead of hating what had just begun.
I was worried if this was the truth.
------------
"LEAF WAKE UP!!!" I awoke to Sorrel shaking me frantically. "Sorrel? What is it? It's only 4:00 in the morning." I said still sleepy. "There's a monster attacking our homes!!!" She said immediately after I finished talking. I rushed out the door and saw the creature.
It looked like a troll by the way it walked, but it seemed like a swamp monster as well, with dangling pieces of something covering it's skin. It had yellow, glowing eyes and it made this earth-shattering screech as it tore at Sorrel's home. I looked at Sorrel urgently, "Run and get the boys, use your powers if you have to. I'll get Storm and hold off the creature. " I commanded, Sorrel gave a quick nod and zoomed across the forest. I took a quick glance at the monster, making sure it hadn't noticed me, and forced Storm's door open.
"Storm!" I yelled impatiently, "Wake up now!!!" When Storm didn't stir I groaned loudly and hauled her to the ground. When I didn't see a reaction, I used my water powers and sprayed her. She then immediately opened her eyes yelling, "Leaf! What was that for!?"
"There's a troll outside destroying Sorrel's house! We have to stop it! " I said yelling. As I finished my sentence a loud crash was heard behind me. I turned around just when something crashed on top of me, knocking me to the ground. Filthy hands covered my face as I struggled to get out of the monster's grip. "Leaf!" I heard Storm yell, lightning flashed in the corner of my eye and the monster let go.
I trapped the creature in a swirl of water and leaves, knowing it would only hold for just a few moments. "Thanks." I said, giving a small smile to Storm and we both got ready to attack the monster.
We waited, but nothing happened. "Huh?" I said slightly puzzled and I moved out of my fighting stance. The monster then crashed out of the cage and I had barely a second to move out of the way until it would've jumped onto me again. Storm shot out multiple series of lightning bolts at the monster. It slowed it down, but it couldn't be stopped. "It's smart. " I said, noticing that it dodged plenty of our shots. After some time, we were still fighting the monster and it felt like so much time had passed during the fight. "We can't go on much longer!" I heard Storm say between gasps as the monster lunged at her.
I hoped that Sorrel and the others would get here soon. It was only a matter of time until we would be totally exhausted. As Storm and I got ready to shoot another attack, nothing happened. "Our powers aren't working!" Storm said, and I nodded. Since we were so tired, I'm sure our powers our linked to how long we can go on using them.
The creature must've realized we weren't attacking and it seemed to smile with the look in its eyes. I braced myself for an attack as it sprang at me, but it was caught in midair by an invisible force. As I watched the creature seem to wrestle with nothing, I saw a small outline of a person. "Shrew!" I exclaimed and smiled with relief as I saw Fire, Bracken, Star, and Sorrel hurry inside to backup Shrew.
Shrew moved out of the way from the monster's grip and became visible again. While everyone kept the monster busy, Shrew looked at Storm and I, "You guys get out of here while you can, I don't think we'll be able to save your homes." He said. We nodded and started heading out of the house into the forest.
"Where do you think we will go now?" I asked Storm as we ran, she shrugged. "I don't know, we might just live in the trees and bushes." As we ran a while more, I heard all our friends catch up with us. Shrew came up to me, "We trapped the monster temporarily so that we could get away. I don't think there was any way to stop it." He explained to Storm and I.
"Thanks, but we don't know where to stay now. Since our houses are technically claimed as territory for the troll." Storm said. The boys all looked at each other, seeming to have a silent conversation. "You could stay with us. " Bracken offered, I smiled widely at him and gave him a big, friendly hug. "Thanks so much Bracken! This'll be great! " I said happily. He laughed, "No problem." He said and we pulled apart.
With that, we all started heading to the edge of the pine forest and the moorland. It had been a long morning, and Storm, Sorrel, and I were exhausted.
