Chapter six

Cara Andersen’s two-timing two of our hottest guys?

Damian Knight, our school basketball team’s captain and top shooter in bother air rifle and pistol, our star archer and the best Pentathlete in town.

Jake Ericsson, our football team’s quarterback, the school’s heartthrob and the one who won the ‘Son of Aphrodite’ title this year.

Seriously these two boys are being two-timed by her?

“Oh. My. God,” Cara said as she stared at the laptop’s screen with a shocked expression. They had this private group in Facebook where everyone was added- whether you’re someone from the top of the social ladder or at the last page of the popularity ranking list. It was the only place where you get the latest gossips online. There are five admins in the group- Emilie was one of them. But of course they were careful enough to protect themselves by not revealing their identity, actually, they had two facebook accounts- one for gossips and the other for the normal use.

Cara didn’t really let it get her but when the negative comments started coming, that was the time Cara was close to tears. Her phone rang, the number wasn’t saved in her phone so she didn’t answer it immediately. Emilie took the initiative to answer it.

“Hello?” Emilie said as she sat with her legs crossed on Cara’s bed while Cara had her face buried on one of her pillows.

“Hey, Jake here,” a low, husky voice said. Emilie looked at Cara and shook her lightly. Cara’s head shot up with her eyes puffy and red. “Jake,” Emilie mouthed. Cara reluctantly took her phone and answered it.

“Hey,” Cara’s voice sounded weak. She actually couldn’t speak from all the crying.

“I saw what was posted on the group…” Jake trailed off. There was a long pause before he started speaking again. “You okay there?” he asked. Cara sniffed, Cara’s nose gets runny whenever she cries. “Yeah,” she replied weakly over the phone.

Silence filled the room. None of them was speaking, the only sound that can be heard was Cara’s sniffing.

“Look, I’m sorry I got you into this. I shouldn’t have tagged along and ruin your date,” he said, finally breaking the silence, and followed by that was a heavy sigh. “I’m gonna fix this, don’t worry,” he said again. Cara was silent the whole time. She didn’t feel like talking. Emilie stole the phone and told Jake Cara didn’t take it well and it was best for him to leave her alone for the time being.

Emilie sat on the sofa and watched random shows on the television as Cara lay on her bed staring at the ceiling. The room was silent again until the door suddenly opened and Damian stood her, worry written all over his face. He was wearing a pair of light wash, slightly ripped jeans and a black sleeveless shirt that showed his bare arms. He had lean muscles and Emilie couldn’t help but notice them.

“Hello? There is such thing as knocking!” Emilie exclaimed as she munched on her bowl of potato chips. Damian just looked at her and walked towards Cara. Emilie knelt on the sofa, watching the two. Damian knelt so his face could be on the same level as Cara’s and leaned to kiss Cara on the forehead. Emilie tried not to squeal and bit one of the corners of the pillow she’s been hugging. What she was witnessing was way better than the romance show she was watching a while ago.

“Everything’s gonna be okay,” he reassured as he caressed her cheek. A warm tear dropped but Cara smiled. She loved the way he comforts her, it never fails. She sat up and wrapped her arms around Damian. “Thank you, for always being there,” Cara whispered as she tightened her hug. Damian hugged her back and inhaled her strawberry scent, “I’ll always be there.”
