Chapter Seven

"Wow, you have a nice place here," Blake said looking around the living room- the room you'll see when you enter Emilie's house. Emilie blushed at the comliment, "Nah, yours is nicer."

Blake gave her a grin and then continued to look around again. Emilie walked towards the kitchen, "Mom! I'm home!" She called.

"Ah, welcome back dear, but why are you in pajamas and bunny slippers?" Her mom asked then looked at Blake. "And who's this young lad?" Her mom asked, but this time softer. Emilie sighed, she just saw her mom and she's already bombarding her with questions.

"Well, I slept over Cara's because she wanted me to and," she turned to Blake. "This is Blake Andersen, Cara's older brother," she added smiling at Blake, who returned the smile.

"Good morning Mrs. Archibald," he greeted with a smile.

"Good morning," Mrs. Archibald greeted back, with a smile. Which made Emilie became alert.

Mrs. Archibald was the over-protective kind of mom. She doesn't allow Emilie to bring home boys and if Emilie had any suitors, she has her ways to find information about the guy. Which is why sometimes, Emilie wonders whether her mom is one of those spies with cool gadgets. She'd love to use them on Blake. But then, stalking isn't really her thing.

"Thank you for bringing my daughter home, would you like to stay for some coffee?" Her mother offered. Emilie looked at her with wide eyes. Her mom invited the guy she's with to stay longer for coffee when she usually just shoo guys away the minute they step on the door steps.

"Sure, thanks for the invitation," Blake grinned. Mrs. Archibald smiled-nodded and went in the kitchen to make coffee. Emilie then lead Blake on the living room. The two sat beside each other on the sofa and watched whatever that's on showing.

"Something's wrong," Emilie said, her eyes never leaving the television. Blake glanced at her, "Why's that so?"

Emilie adjusted herself by crossing her legs and hugged one of the huge pillows she had in the living room. "My mom invited you in and offered coffee," she pouted. Blake frowned.

"Oh sorry, I could leave now if you wa-"

"No! No! No! It's- it's not like that!" Emilie panicked when Blake was about to leave her side. He was about to stand up when Emilie stopped him by holding his arm.

Remembering the fact that he was wearing a short-sleeved shirt, he changed before driving her home, made Emilie blush. She was holding his bare arms. Blake looked at her with widened eyes then sat down. Emilie buried half of her blushing face on the big violet pillow she was hugging.

"When she's like that, she probably saw dad," Emilie told him. "Or probably he called," she added and frowned. Blake gave her a concerned look.

"You see, my mom's over-protective because she's afraid I'll leave her like my dad did. Which explains me being single for quite a long time," she told him. "Wow, that's kinda depressing," she muttered. Blake, being the type who comforts silently, wrapped his arm around her. Emilie felt all her burdens going away that time and decided to rest her head on his shoulder.

"You're lucky you still have your mom, Cara and Ethan never got the chance to see theirs," Blake said as he gave her a reassuring smile. Emilie looked at him in the eyes and smiled.

"Coffee's ready!" Her mother said from the kitchen. Emilie didn't want to leave the place she was at. She was too comfortable. However, Blake pulled his arm back and stood up. "You coming?"

Emilie forced out a smile and nodded then stood up. At that moment, she wished time went slower and her mom offered something that took a longer time to prepare. Probably roasted turkey or maybe lasagna.
