I sit in Adam's car, waiting for him to come back. He's inside the large looming building, going through the adoption process. I've already seen a vehicle dispatched about a few hours ago labelled with "Adoptive Home Study". I know how the adoption process works, and it looks like they are trying to speed it up. He had left the radio on for me, and it was playing Christmas songs. That's what you would expect on December eighteenth. Then a new song starts to play. "This next song is a cover of 'All I Want for Christmas' by Anthem Lights." [listen to it in the sidebar] Then it plays. They sound amazing.
When I think about it, it reminds me a lot about my position right now. All I had wanted for Christmas was a loving family, and now I may have one. Adam had told me that he was going to be moving to LA soon, to live with some friends, and that I would be coming with him. I sit up as I see Adam coming, a grin spread across his face. He opens the door and sits down. "Well, I'm officially your legal guardian." he says. I hug him, and he hugs back. It's been so long since I felt a kind touch.
"I love this song," he says smiling. "I've heard this cover on Pandora." I nod.
"Yeah." I smile. "It reminds me of, well, me. All I wanted was a nice family, and now I have one." He smiles.
"Flatterer." He says. I laugh.
"No really! I mean it." He grins.
"Okay, but anyways I have something else to tell you." I look at him with squint, slightly turning my head and making a kissy face.
"What have you been hiding, Adam?" I say in a fake serious tone.
"Nothing! I just haven't been able to tell you yet!" He says with fake exasperation. Then we both burst out laughing. It feels good to laugh like this. My old "friends" used to say that I was really funny, but then my life turned upside-down. "But in all seriousness, I do have something to tell you. Have you ever heard of Youtube?" He asks. I nod.
"Yeah, I used to watch it all the time, until my old foster parents took away my laptop." I respond sulkily.
"And I assume you used to play Minecraft?" he asks, pointing to the creeper beanie. I laugh.
"Yup! Best game ever!" I say.
He grins, "Well, I have a very popular Youtube channel and I pretty much only do Minecraft videos." My eyes widen.
"Really? What's your name?" I ask excitedly
He smiles. "Ever heard of... SkyDoesMinecraft?"
I let out a squee and nod vigorously. "Oh my god! Me and my friends used to watch you whenever we had the chance!" I say excitedly.
"Well how about I take you home. You have some stuff to catch up on, and I have a few friends I want you to meet." Yes! Best Christmas present ever.
