Xander walks out of Ty's house, dragging along my old, worn suitcase which has stuck with me all this time. Today we are finally leaving for LA. We'll finally be able to settle back down and live our life in peace. We plan to finish school when we get there, next Monday. I'm hoping that the other students there will be a lot nicer then the ones back in Seattle. I haven't seen Chelsea or Alison in a long time, and it makes me worry. They may have bullied me and left me by myself, but they were still once my best friends. I remember when we used to do everything together, watch YouTube, mess around with makeup, go shopping, pig out on ice cream tubs, and do crazy insane things. It's heartbreaking to think that all of that is gone now, and there are so many layers pushed between us at this point. They hate me now, but I'm yet to understand why. I got a lot of sympathy at the beginning when my mom died, but that didn't last long. Until I met Adam, my life was a complete wreck. They probably did it for popularity, to look cool.
I sigh and look around the front hall. Bags line the side of the wall, from all the guys. Ty's parents are staying here, so the house is still full of furniture and other normal house things. Xander comes back inside empty handed. He has no bags to bring, as all of his things were left in his families car. "So are we going to ask Mitch?" He asks. I sigh. "Yeah, I think we have to. We've put it off until today, so let's just get it over with." He nods. "I'll go get him, I think he's upstairs." He jogs down the hall and turns the corner. I can hear the thud of his feet echo through the eerily silent house. After several minutes I hear footsteps again, only this time doubled. A few seconds later Xander appears around the corner, closely followed by slightly confused looking Mitch. "What did ya wanna ask about?" He asks. I sigh. "We wanted to know what happened to Louise. We don't want to ask Jerome, and you would know since you came with him." I say quietly, incase Jerome was still in the house.
Mitch looks around uncomfortably. "Do we really have to talk about this now?" He says in a strained voice. I look at him seriously. "Mitch, we want to know. What happened." He sighs and sits on top of one of the bags lining the wall. "Well, when I got to Jerome's, she took her own car because she thought it would be better to have two just in case. When the storm hit us, we stayed in traffic for a few days before it cleared up. We got separated, but we kept going, assuming we'd meet up again in Tucson. When we got here, she never arrived. We didn't know what happened to her, and it had been a month. Jerome wouldn't give up on her, and he still believed she'd get here eventually. Two days before you got here, a list of the missing and the dead was released. He searched the entire missing list and didn't find her." Mitch pauses and let's out a deep breath.
"Then he reluctantly read the dead list." He puts his head down. "You can probably guess what he found." I cover my mouth with my good hand. "No." I gasp. Mitch nods sadly. "Oh my god, poor Jerome!" Xander says shocked. Mitch nods. "I've gotta go, I was in the middle of talking to him." I nod slightly. He gets up and slowly starts to walk down the hallway. "Wait!" I say suddenly, something coming to mind. "Where can I see the lists?" He stops and looks back at me. "Just look it up online, search 'Impossible storm lists'." I nod and he starts walking again. I pull out my iPhone and unlock it, clicking the Google Chrome app. It opens and I hit the search button, typing in "impossible storm lists". The first result is a .gov link, so I click it. When the list of names appears, I immediately begin searching for Mesborn and Diebay. After a bit, I am certain neither are on the dead list, and I begin to look through the missing list. Then my eyes fall on a name that I was hoping not to see. Alison Diebay. Age 16. Last seen January 13th, 2014 in Seattle, Washington. I set my phone down and put my face in my hands.
"No." I whisper. I feel the tears coming and I wipe them away and stifle a sniffle. "What is it, who did you find?" Xander asks, crouching down and looking at me. "Alison is missing." I whisper. He raises his eyebrow. "Wasn't she one of the bullies at school?" He asks. I shake my head. "Yes, but she used to be my best friend. You can never really let go of something like that. You're always going to have feelings for them." He sighs and nods, wrapping me carefully in a hug. "Don't worry, they'll find her." He coos comfortingly in my ear. I shake with silent sobs. "And what if she's dead, trapped inside her house!" I say exasperated. He hugs me a bit tighter, still being careful of my injuries. "Hey, hey, hey, hey. Calm down, it'll be okay." He says, releasing me from the embrace and brushing my hair behind my ear. He kisses my forehead and looks at me carefully. "Just forget about it for now. Let's try and just have fun with everyone while we're traveling." He says gently.
I nod and look back up. "I love you." I say softly. He smiles and pulls me close again. "I love you, too. Now come on let's get you in the car." I smile lightly and nod. He get up and walks behind me, grabbing the handles and pushing me forward. Jason opens the door right as we're about to go out. "Thanks." Xander says. He simply nods with a smile and scoots past to grab more bags. We roll out onto the shoveled pathway, and I see Adam, Quentin, Ty, Ian, and Jocelyn standing outside the van. They're quickly putting the bags as neatly as possible into the trunk to save space. Lucy is already inside, along with Joyce and Gwen. The three of us and Jocelyn are the only girls, and then there's the eight guys. Thirteen of us in the same van is going to be cramped, but we need the extra warmth. Adam looks up when he hears the wheels of my wheelchair. "Can you help me get Jess into the van?" Xander asks when we approach them.
"Um, I'm a person you know, I can get in by myself!" I protest. Adam looks at me with a smirk. "Yeah, a person with only one useable limb. Come on." He grabs under my legs and Xander gets under my arms. "Lift on three." Adam says. Xander nods. "Okay, one, two three!" They lift me up surprisingly easily and carry me around the side if the van. The door is open, so they bring me inside and set me down gently on one of the couches. There are two seats up front, with three behind that and then space in the back with two couches along the sides. We already have the seating arranged. Jerome is driving, and Mitch is in shotgun, with Adam, Ian and Quentin behind them. In the back is me, Joyce, Gwen, Xander, Ty, Jocelyn, Jason, and Tyler. Lucy is on the floor in between the couches. Xander climbs in and sits next to me, and I lean on his shoulder. Gwen and Joyce keep talking and Lucy comes over and rests her head on my lap. I smile and scoop her up with my good arm, placing her on my lap. Hopefully this trip will be better than the last.
