"JESS GET UP NOW!" I hear someone yelling. My eyes shoot open to Adam shaking me, trying to wake me up. "What?" I say groggily. "Did I sleep in?" I look at his face and realize how panicked he looks. "DON'T CARE ABOUT SCHOOL RIGHT NOW! CANCELED, PROBABLY FOR WEEKS!" Now I'm wide awake, jumping out of bed. "What do you mean?" I ask, now panicking myself. "No one knows what it is, but a giant storm just appeared out of nowhere! It's identical to a hurricane, but it's almost three times bigger, and it's caused almost two feet of snow in only an hour!" My eyes widen, and I realize how cold it is, and how many layers on clothes Adam is wearing. "Get your stuff, were going to try and get out of here!" He says, gesturing to the big suitcase behind him. I quickly pull my drawers out and take out all of my clothes, tossing them all into the bag, grabbing a few oversize sweatshirts and pulling them on.

I walk over to m computer setup, packing everything into my computer bag. I throw that into the suitcase too, turning and also grabbing a thick blanket from the bed and two pictures of my parents. After a small pause, I walk over to the window and pull back the curtain, looking outside. The entire outside is white, covered by massive piles of snow. The car is buried, and the harsh winds ravage the snow and trees, spreading it everywhere. I watch across the street as a tall tree comes crashing down in a explosion of snow. I scramble to the other side of the room, grabbing the handle of my suitcase and rolling it down the hallway, carefully bringing it down the stairs. At the bottom there is a group of two suitcases, and a small mound of snow. I drop my bag next to the rest, and walk to the kitchen, where Joyce and Gwen are sitting, panic stricken.

"Wh-where's Adam?" I ask shakily, shivering from the cold. Gwen looks up as I stumble over to the table. "O-outside, clearing off the car. We're going to try and get out." She replies. I nod, my teeth chattering. "W-what's the t-temperature outside?" I ask. Joyce shifts slightly in her chair. "Negative thirty degrees fahrenheit." She replies. "It's only negative ten in here." Suddenly I hear the a gush of wind as the door squeaks open and slams. "Okay, we have to get everything out and into the car, quickly! I have the heat on, so it will be warmer in there!" I hear Adam shout. We all leap up, grabbing our coats from the closet before running to the front door. A larger pile of snow sits in front if the door, and Adam stands over it, with blue lips and his face drained of color. I immediately grab my bag, as does Gwen. I'm assuming her and Joyce shared a bag to save space.

"O-okay, on the c-count of th-three, we have t-to r-run out and get e-everything in the car, and t-then g-get in." He says. We prepare ourselves to run and he starts to count down. "T-three. T-two. O-one!" He shouts, flinging open the door. We sprint as fast as we can through the high snow, reaching the car quickly. Adam throws open the doors and we throw are bags in quickly. I jump in shotgun overt bag, while Gwen and Joyce get in the back, huddling together. When we are all in, Adam buckles up an hits the gas, and we begin to speed down the street. A plow must have come through a bit ago, as only about four inches cover the street. I shiver, attempting to warm myself up, and turn on the radio to see if there is any news.

"Scientists are baffled by the humongous storm over Washington state. Sources tell us that they have named it a Polar Turbine, a result of the Polar Vortex." The car is slowly warming up, definitely warmer than the house. We reach the main city, and the streets are empty. The radio announcer is giving more information about the storm. "The Polar Turbine is supposedly much more dangerous than the ordinary hurricane, with harsher winds, and a average snowfall of two feet per hour. Residents of Washington are advised to leave their homes and attempt to get out of the state as quickly as possible. The storm is moving eastward, so please try to head south or southeast." I look at Adam, rubbing my hands together to try and get warm. "Where are we headed?" I ask quietly. He sighs. "I managed to get a call in to Ty when I woke up. We're going to get down south and stay with him for a bit then move over to the Team Crafted house." He replies slowly.

I sit back in my chair and bring my legs up to my chest. I rock slightly back and forth, watching the road. Winds whip at the quickly falling snow, and we eventually reach the highway. Not many people are on it, so I'm assuming most people can't get their cars out. My eyes shut and I feel the car move quickly through the snow, and the boom of thunder. I open my eyes after a while, glancing back at Gwen and Joyce. They're fast asleep, shaking slightly every once and a while. I glance outside and realize that the snow has gathered much thicker on the side of the road, but the strong winds are keeping the roads much cleaner. Many more cars have gotten on the highway, but we are able to weave our way through them.

Suddenly reality catches up on me, and I realize what has happened. We are probably never going to see our house anymore, there's a chance that we won't even get out of the state, and our lives are at stake. I put my hands over my mouth and start taking deep breaths. Tears start to gather in my eyes, and a few spill over. I can't believe this is happening. Why does my life have to be such a wreck? Why can't I just be a normal 16 year old girl? Have my mom and dad, support, normal eyes, tons of friends? But then I wouldn't have met Adam, I would never have liked Minecraft, and never met Xander. Those are the only good things in my life though. I've lost my sisters, I've been bullied, I've been abused by foster parents, and now I'm in the middle if a giant Polar Turbine. Why does life hate me?
