Chapter 4

It was Saturday afternoon, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. We were all over at Reece's house working on an English project. For the entire 4 hours, we never once mentioned Keady and Mr.Huntswood's relationship. We decided to keep it on the DL because we didn't want to embarrass Keady more than she already was.

Someone rang the doorbell. Reece's dad, Scott, answered the door. It was Collin, he stopped by to pick up Reece for their date.

"Hello, can I help you?" Scott asked.

"Oh, hello Mr.Sawyer. I'm here to see Reece." Collin replied.

Both of them stood in silence for a little while. Reece got up to see who was at the door, and when she saw who it was, she went pale.

"Reece, care to tell me who this young man is?" Scott asked his daughter suspiciously.

"Oh, ummm this is Collin. He's a friend from school. He's on my track team and we were going to go out for a run. Is that okay?" Reece said.

"Well, I guess, but make sure that you're back before dinner." Scott said. Reece kissed her father on the cheek and headed upstairs to change. Meanwhile...

"Young man, I expect that you will be a perfect gentleman to my daughter. You must know that she means the world to me. And if you hurt my little girl in any way...we're going to have some words." Scott said informingly.

"Yes sir. Reece will be home by 4, and don't you worry, nothing will happen." Collin replied confidently. Before Scott could say anything else, Reece ran from upstairs and headed out the door with Collin.

Reece's dad then walked into the kitchen, only to find that all 3 of us had been eaves dropping on their conversation. He stared at us for a couple of minutes and then finally asked us if he should be nervous. We replied by saying that Collin was a nice boy and Reece is very responsible, so nothing bad will happen. He exhaled a sigh on relief...and for the rest of the time we played monopoly and twister with Scott and Reece's little sisters, Kendall and Delaney.

Reece and Collin had been running for about 45 minutes before they decided to sit down on a park bench.

"Wow, aren't I the luckiest guy in the world. I get to spend this beautiful day with the most beautiful and sweet girl in the world." Collin said to Reece. Reece's face went cherry red as she sat and leaned on Collin. "So, I noticed you have a couple of friends that you always hang out with. Tell me about them."

Reece thought for a little while about what she was going to say about all of us. "Well, first there's Lexi. She's sweet, smart and she's really fun to be around. I can talk to her about anything and she's just awesome. She's got a boyfriend, Owen. I've talked to him a couple of times, and he's really sweet. I think they are perfect together." Collin nodded his head agreeing. "Then there's Keady. We're cousins, so I know basically everything about her. But she's really funny and nice. We've known each other since we were born so we're really close. She has a boyfriend too, but it's kind of...ummm...complicated so I won't get into that." Collin nodded again. "And last but not least there's Bree. She's really awesome. She's sweet, nice, smart, funny, and so easy to talk to." While Reece was talking about Bree's many amazing qualities, Collin reached over and held Reece's hand, but she didn't make a deal about it. She just kept on talking, even though inside he heart was beating million miles a minute. "Bree has a boyfriend too, Nick. And she rea-." Before Reece could finish her sentence, Collin interrupted.

"Wait, Nick. As in Nick Rosewood?" Collin asked.

"Well yea, why?" Reece asked confused.

"Nick is real trouble. He has been expelled from 7 schools and all for the same two reasons. Either he hurts someone so badly that they are hospitalized for weeks, or he get a girl drunk and then...well, I guess you can piece it together from there. Bottom line is that Nick doesn't deserve Bree, if she is as amazing as you tell me she is." Collin said with concern.

"Oh my gosh!" Reece said both surprised and concerned. "I better tell her before she get too wrapped up in all of this shit. She doesn't deserve to be hurt. And definitely doesn't deserve to be used as some sex toy. Thanks for telling me. You just saved her a lot of trouble."

"No problem. So, should we start heading back to your house?" Collin asked trying to change the subject.

"Yea sure! That's a good idea." Reece said. Collin and Reece got up and started jogging, but they never let go of each other's hand.

When Reece got back to her house, Collin walked her to her front step. He hugged her and whispered "I love you" in her ear. Reece looked at him for a couple of seconds, and then just went for it. She kissed him. But it wasn't wet or sloppy like the ones in the movies that make the girl look like she's being chocked. It was nice, simple, sweet, and sincere. Reece said "See you tomorrow," and walked inside.

Her dad was upstairs in his office when she walked in. Reece went to go see him, to ask where we had all gone. She explained how we had all gone home because we got bored after 2 hours of twister. He asked how it went and Reece told him all about it. You know, accept for the hand holding and kissing part.

Reece went into her bedroom, showered and then called Keady and I to talk about how we would break the news to Bree. Our initial reactions were that Reece was just joking, but then she sounded really serious about it, and so we decided that it definitely wasn't a joke. We all made a plan and intended on sticking to it.

The next day, we all met Bree in the locker room.

"Hey Bree, ummm we need to tell me something. It's about Nick. We don't think that it's such a good idea for you to be dating him." I said as gently as I could.

"What why?" Bree said sadly.

"Because he's a fucking dick and only wants girls for-." Before Keady could finish her sentence, Reece covered her mouth. Let's just say Keady wasn't the gentlest person in the world. She said things just as they were, which there's nothing wrong with by the way, it's just that this had to be done gently.

"What she meant to say was, that Nick has a reputation. He's known for knocking out guys and well, using girls. The reason why we're telling you this, is just because we don't want you to get hurt. We all think that it is in your best interest to stay away from Nick."

"How do you know what's best for me? You don't know Nick like I do. He is the best thing that's ever happened to me and I'm not just going to let him go because of one little rumor." Bree said defensively.

"Bree, it's not just one little rumor. The whole school knows about it." I said, trying to convince Bree.

"Well, I don't care. Nick and I are meant to be together. I can't believe that you guys aren't supporting me on this. I thought you were my friends." Bree said

"We are you're friends. And we care about you, that's why we're telling you this." I said.

"If you really were my friends, you would try to spare my feelings." Bree said as she stormed out.

"When you get your grasp on reality, give me a call okay?" Keady yelled out the door.

"Well that went well." Reece said sounding optimistic.
