Chapter 8

Reece, Keady and I walked through the hallways the next day. We were on a mission, and today our mission was to find Nick and ask him what the hell was going on. He wasn’t anywhere to be seen on the main campus, so we walked over to the gym. We stormed through the men’s locker room and finally found Nick.

“Hey Nick, what’s up?” I asked.

“Nothing much, what are you three doing in here?” he asked timidly.

“Excuse me, we’ll ask the questions around here. So, what have you been up to?” I asked.

“Nothing much, I was away yesterday because I was sick.” He said as he looked around the room.

“Oh, so I guess you didn’t hear...Bree went missing on Sunday. We’re actually here to ask you if you know anything about it.” Reece said.

“Really? Well, I have no idea what you’re talking about. But I have to go or else I’m going to be late for gym so-.” He said as he headed for the door. Keady pulled him back, pushed him up against a locker, and lifted him by his jersey.

“Listen dick face, we know you know something, and you know you know something. So why don’t we make this simple. You tell us everything you know, and we’ll leave you alone. Alright? Now spill it.” Keady said intimidatingly.

“Okay, they’re after the locket.” He said.

“Who’s they?” Reece asked.

“I don’t know.” Nick said frightened. Keady banged him against the lockers again.

“What did you just say?” Keady screamed.

“I don’t know, I mean I really don’t know. And I don’t know why either. I got a note on Thursday threatening me to give them the necklace…but it didn’t say who it was from. So, at the party, I gave the locket to Bree so-.” I cut him off.

“So they wouldn’t be after you anymore.” I said as I tapped Keady on the shoulder. Keady put Nick down and I stared at him intensely. After a couple of seconds, I slapped him so hard that his cheek was as red as a fire truck. “Why would you put Bree in danger? I thought you liked her. You’re such a jerk! What the fuck is your problem? You don’t get a girl to like you by sending a crazed killer after her!”

“Well what was I supposed to do, let them come and kill me?” He said defensively.

“Whatever, just go.” Reece said.

Nick ran out of the locker room and we all stared at each other.

“So what now?” Reece asked.

“I’m not sure,” I said, “but I’m going to figure out why they want that locket.”

Reece and I walked out of the locker room as Keady yelled…

“I don’t care what we do, as long as I get to kick them in the dick when we find them!”

I was up all night on antique websites, eBay, Wikipedia…and nothing. I had seen the locket only once, so I didn’t know much about it. All I know is that before Reece and I had left the party on Friday, we heard that the name of the woman who originally had it was Elizabeth Greenway. So I searched the name and it turns out that she got it from her husband, a war veteran. He had found it while in battle and he shipped it home to his wife. Shortly after, he was killed. How it happened that it ended up in the hands of Nick, I have no clue. I researched the value of the locket, and it was clear why people would be fighting for it. The total value of the locket, was $22,500.

The thing I love about my friends and I is that we all think alike and I know that I can talk to them anytime…literally anytime. I called them at about 2am and they picked up instantly. Not only that, but we all said the same thing, all at once...

“Guys, you’ll never believe this, the locket is worth $22,500!” we all said in unison.

“Yea and the person that had it before was-.” I got cut off by Reece and Keady.

“-Elizabeth Greenway.” They said.

“How did Nick end up with it?” Reece asked.

“I’m not sure. But that isn’t important what’s important is…wait I’m getting a Skype message.” I said. I opened Skype and the message was from Bree, but I had been logged off of Skype for a while, so it was probably an old message that i hadn't read yet. I opened it anyways and it read,
