Chapter 5
Reece, Keady and I all took part in a 3 hour skype call. We thought that maybe we were too rough about the subject. Bree was a very sensitive person, and some of us weren’t as mindful of that as others *cough* Keady.
“I think we went a little bit too far, this is all our faults,” I said addressing the subject.
“What the hell? This isn’t our faults, it’s her fault for being acting all bitchy,” Keady said judgementally.
“Okay stop it. Maybe Bree had over-reacted about the whole satiation, but she is still our friend, and we need to support her,” Reece said in a mother-like tone.
“Yea exactly. Maybe she was just pmsing,” I said trying to think of other reasons why Bree was so dramatic.
“That’s the spirit! Well…sort of.” Reece said. “Think of what we would do if this had happened to one of us.”
“I guess you’re right. We need to be gentle, yet be firm in our point. That should be in our new plan of action,” Keady said.
“No no no no no! There will be no new plan of action, and we will not meddle. We will simply wait and see what happens. Besides, Bree is smart enough to know right from wrong. I trust her, she’ll come around eventually,” I said. We all said goodnight and then hung up. As optimistic as I sounded in the conversation, there were two little words circling in my mind, “She’s Screwed.”
The next day we all walked into the locker room, to find Bree once again staring at her locker shelf. She didn’t even acknowledge the fact that we had come through the door, but I didn’t blame her. If my friends were trying to break up me and my boyfriend I would be pretty pissed too. I tapped her lightly on the shoulder.
“Bree?,” I whispered, “We need to talk.” She snapped back and jumped up.
“There’s nothing to say.” She fired back. Keady jumped in.
“Listen, we talked last night and we were wrong. We should’ve never come between you and Nick and we’re sorry. If we promise to stop meddling, will you please forgive us? So things can get back to how they were,” Keady said as she knelt down on her knees begging for Bree’s forgiveness. Reece and I looked at each other, and then got down on our knees and begged as well. Bree started to blush and then forgave us in an instance. We all got up and hugged Bree.
Second period had just ended and we were all heading off to lunch. Keady, Reece and I were sitting at our table, wondering where Bree was. 10 minutes later, Bree ran into the lunch room looking like she had just won the lottery.
“Guys, guess what?!” Bree said in a perky tone of voice.
“What?” I asked with my mouth half full of rice.
“Nick just asked me to go to his annual homecoming party! Oh and he told me to make sure I get a ride home, what do you think that means?” Bree asked.
“Umm, maybe it means that you will be so drunk by the end of it that you won’t be able to drive yourself home! Duh!” Keady said with her eyes wide. When I heard this come out of Keady’s mouth, I spat mushed up cereal and milk out everywhere. But then the bell rang for announcements, so I was hoping that no one would say anything.
Bree had a Science test, and so we all stayed behind to clean up her plates. Reece, Keady and I sat alone in the cafeteria drinking coffee and tea.
“I guess we can’t do anything about Bree going to that party, we promised not to meddle,” Reece said as she took a long sip of her tea.
“What and just let her get screwed over by Nick? I can’t let that happen,” I said angrily.
“Well, what do you suggest? If we interfere again, Bree will never forgive us.” Keady said.
“Okay, I’ve got it. We need to crash that party.” I said.
“Whoa whoa whoa, back the truck up. We?” Reece said.
“Yes us. Bree is our friend, and it is our job to protect her. So what do you say? Are you guys in?” I asked.
“Okay fine, but only if I get to wear that red dress I wore for grade 8 grad.” Keady said.
“No, you can wear the dress that you wore for formal last year. You have probably grown a lot since then and the dress will make you look like a slut.” I said as Keady nodded her head in agreement.
“Alright Reece, are you in?” I said to Reece sounding desperate.
“Okay I’m in. But if this thing goes south it’s all on you.” She said looking serious. I nodded and smiled at her.
We sat there for about another 20 minutes, thinking about the plan. This plan had to go on without a hitch. We weren’t going to let her know that we were there; we were merely going to be there to make sure nothing bad happened to her. We had to be there for her, if something bad happened to her none of us would be able to live with ourselves knowing that we could’ve prevented it. Let’s face it; we all knew that Nick was going to make his move on Bree at that party. So as lame as it sounds, it was time to go undercover and kick some ass.
