Chapter 9
“So, remind me why we’re in a cemetery at 2am?” Reece asked as she shivered.
“It’s Bree, she sent me a Skype message, and it said Holly Devitt.” I said as I searched through the gravestones.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Keady asked.
“Holly Devitt was my aunt’s name. Only Bree knew where she was buried…well other than my family of course. So I immediately thought to come here.” I said.
“Okay, I’ll go over there, Reece you go there, and Lexi stay here. If we spread out, we’ll find it faster and then we can get out of this death trap.” Keady said.
We spread out into different rows and read the inscriptions on the headstones. It was cold, wet, dark and extremely eerie, but that just goes to show you the extent of our friendship.
“Hey Lex, get over here.” Reece said with a petrified look on her face, as she pointed the flashlight at a head stone. It was my aunt’s headstone, but on it, someone had spray painted…
“You’re Dead
-Elizabeth G.”
Keady walked over to the two of us staring at the headstone. Keady looked at it and froze.
“Who’s Elizabeth G?” she asked.
“Wait, wasn’t that the name of the woman who first had the locket? Elizabeth Greenway?” Reece said.
“That’s impossible. She died 30 years ago,” I said, “Whoever wrote this, obviously knows where Bree is.”
“Holy shit…guys, what the fuck is that?” Reece asked. We walked over to where Reece was to find that she was staring at a bloody handkerchief. We all stood there and starred, until Keady grabbed a stick, and picked it up. Reece covered her eyes and turned around muttering “holy shit holy shit holy shit” under her breath.
“Hold on a sec, this isn’t blood.” Keady said.
“What? What do you mean?” I asked.
“It’s still wet, but it’s sort of brownish looking. If it were blood, it would still be red.” Keady said as Reece turned around to get a closer look.
“You’re right. But what could it be?” Reece asked. I stepped closer to the cloth and sniffed it. Reece turned around again, disgusted. It smelt very strong and immediately I knew what it was.
“Okay, don’t freak out but I think this is a mix of potassium sulfate, copper sulfate, and ummm chloroform.”
“Like we did in chemistry? Wait, that’s extremely harmful. ” Keady added.
“Exactly, so whoever did this to Bree-.” I added before I was cut off by Reece.
“-Somehow had access to the lab, or knew the exact measurements for this mixture to turn out just right.” Reece said.
“Bingo,” I said. It’s obviously someone from school. Although that doesn’t help narrow things down. There are over 400 students.”
“Wait, I’ve got an idea. Reece, you’re in Media class right?” Keady asked.
“Yea why?” Reece asked confused.
“If my plan is going to work, you’re going to have to help.” Keady said.
