Cherry Blossoms

I was sitting with my back to a cherry blossom tree, like I often do. It was a somewhat warm day, but the wind cooled me off quite a bit. The leaves were falling a bit, thanks to the breeze.

My day had been going great. Until I saw Ed walking towards me in the distance. I make that sound like it's a bad thing. It's not, really. He's my best friend. And okay, I might have a little crush on him, but that's not important.

He waved at me and said, “hey (Y/n).”

I greeted him, and he sat beside me by the tree. We sat in silence for a while. It wasn't an awkward silence per say. We had mastered the art of comfortable silence.

He eventually said, “why do you like it out here here so much? I mean, sure it's pretty, but it's not that special.”

“I don't really know,” I admitted, “it's just calming, ya know?”

He smiled and said, “makes sense, I guess.”

“I know. That's why I said it,” I said, smiling.

He said, “ha ha, very funny.”

There was another moment of silence before he asked, “hey, (Y/n), do you have a crush on me?”

I did what any sincable human being would do in this situation. I frantically tried to act like it wasn't a big deal, when I was inevitably dying inside.

I said, as calmly as possible, “why would you think that?”

"Well, Al may or may not have told me that you did. I wanted to know if he was messing with me or not,” Ed said.

I mumbled under my breath, “last time I trust him with secrets.”

Ed must have heard me because he said, “So is that a yes?”

I didn't say anything. I looked in the other direction, too embarrassed to look at him.

He didn't say anything either. He just took my hand in his and we sat in silence.

The cherry blossom tree is now officially my favorite place.
