"Toby!" someone yelled-awaking me from my sleep. Looking to my left I noticed a lady standing there and she looked a bit concerned.

Toby shot up frantically following the voice frowning when he saw who it was. "Mom you shouldn't be out of bed," he sighed. "Whatever you need I'll be in your room in a minute."

Marian shook her head in relief. "I don't need anything I was just wondering where you were that's all," she admitted before finally meeting my gaze. "Who is this?"

Toby followed her gaze once again sighing. I could see the look on his face as memories consumed him. "We'll talk later mom I promise." he answered his voice barely above a whisper.

As usual his eyes told a story but never once had this story been so dark. His emotions were scattered all over the place as he seemed to be trying to settle on just one.

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I turned to look at Marian who had began making her way to the door. "I'll leave you two alone now." she smiled genuinely, softly closing the door behind her.

A few seconds went by when Toby had finally made a movement. Getting out of bed, he made his way to the bathroom and I knew he would be a while once I heard the shower begin.

I'm glad we had a chance to talk, I thought to myself, mentally sighing as well.

I slid out of bed then walked into my closet to get dressed. The outfit that I had decided on was simple. Black leggings, white V-neck, and all white converse.

Once I was done I had made my way downstairs to the kitchen to see Emily rummaging through the refrigerator. "Mind if I help?" I asked leaning against the counter. She turned around shaking her head. "You already know that Toby wouldn't appreciate-" I cut her off.
"Please?" I asked.

Her head cocked to the side as I said this. "What's wrong?" she asked. I simply shrugged my shoulders,"it's something stupid- can we just forget about it?"

"No."

I sat down on one of the stools and began fidgeting with my fingers. "Toby and I finally. . ." I trailed off knowing that she knew what I was talking about. Looking at her to see her reaction she kept a steady expression but her eyes was a different story.

"It was my first time and I feel like it was special I just don't think Toby feels the same way."

Silence had taken over. I hadn't expected her to respond right away but after what I had just told her it would have been better than an uncomfortable silence.

She didn't seem uncomfortable about what I had told her either. She seemed concentrated, forming words in her head so that she wouldn't say the wrong thing.

That was something I had noticed about Emily. She gave amazing advice and manages to deliver it to your liking.

She was also very calm about it. I on the other hand freaked out inside when Caleb asked me to be there for Hanna.

"What makes you think that?" she asked, pulling me away from my thoughts as she did so.
"This morning it just seemed like he regretted the fact that it happened." I admitted.

"I don't want to give you false information so you should go ask him about it," she told me. "Don't jump to the conclusion that he regrets it because he won't take that too lightly so choose your words carefully."

She gave me an uncanny look as she said the word, carefully, making me a tad bit nervous.
"Can I help cook now?" I asked.

We stared at each other for a while before she finally gave in to me. "Fine," she said. "Only because it will help you take your mind off of things but afterwards you have to talk to Toby deal?"

"Not before work-"

"After work- whenever you have time just talk to him about it." she told me. I nodded my head in agreement.

An hour later we- Toby, Marian, Daniel, and I- were seated at the table conversating and eating breakfast. Apparently when Toby's parents were here rules were flipped upside down.

I hardly paid any attention to what they were saying and I ignored the eyes of Toby's parents every now in then.

Feeling uncomfortable I excused myself from the table and left to the nearest bathroom looking myself in the mirror.

Maybe Toby's parents are starting to realize that he could have done better and- my thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Spencer you've been in here for a while are you okay?" Lucas voice said. I opened the door quickly offering a smile. "Everything is fine," then realization hit me. "How did you know I was in the bathroom?"

"I called your name when you were passing through the halls but you kept walking and that was-" he checked his watch. "Almost ten minutes ago and you don't want Toby's parents growing all suspicious."

I mentally faced palmed myself quickly making my way back to the dining room turning to Lucas one last time. "I'll see you later." I smiled. He returned the smile and nodded his head with a small wave.

Walking into the room, I sat down in my seat taking sip of my orange juice.
"Honey are you okay you seem a bit distracted?" Marian asked in her motherly tone. I nodded my head offering a smile.
"I'm fine lately I've just been doing a lot of thinking." I admitted.

"If there's anything you'd like to talk about I'm always open, your apart of the family now." I immediately tensed as she said this and it felt as if my heart tore.
I don't really believe in family anymore. That's what I wanted to say but instead I nodded and went with something simple.
"So it seems." I responded.

She smiled at me then turned Toby who paid no attention to what had just occured. "Son I hear that your getting pretty serious with Spencer but-" he cut her off before she could continue whatever it is she wanted to say.

"Spencer and I are fine-" I stopped listening once he said that. I expected something more than just fine but maybe that was all I would ever be.

Just fine.

I hadn't spoken the rest of our breakfast nor the way to work. By the time we finally arrived I was glad to see Lucas once again on my way to my office.

"Luke can I ask you something?" I wasted no take greeting him, wanting to get straight to the point.

"Of course, what is it?"

"How can you tell whether someone has lost interest in you?" I asked shyly. He raised a brow,"trouble in paradise?"

I shrugged,"something like that." he began walking with me to my office mostly thinking as the words spilled out.

"Well I know I lost interest in someone when I don't want to talk to them, I try to avoid any sort of contact, I become somewhat distant, and usually I know I lost interest in someone when I feel as if I made a bad decision."

My heart that seemed to have torn not long ago had now dropped dead at the pit of my stomach. "S-So. . . regret?" I asked.

He nodded his head with no hesitation. "I better get back to work but I can come back to get you for lunch and we can talk if you want?" he suggested backing away slowly.

I forced a smile. "Yeah I'll see you later." he returned my smile with a cheesy one then turned on his heels walking away.
