Spencer POV
Walking through the front door of the house, I grabbed Kayden out of Toby's hands and rocked him slowly to keep him calm considering he had just stopped crying a moment ago due to the cold weather outside.
Toby grabbed the blanket that hung over the side of the crib and placed it around him. "If I would have known that it was going to be this cold I would have brought something."
I could tell that he was blaming himself by the way the words had come out, his tone almost sounded regretful. "He's fine, babies don't do well in hot or cold weather so either way it would have been the same thing." I smiled gently.
He just gave me a single head nod before leaning against the door frame, watching me intently. "I think I might sit in my office for a few hours and get some work done." he murmured.
"A few hours?" I repeated curiously. "How much work have you fell behind in the last two days?"He sighed almost as if he was frustrated with more than I knew he was going to tell me. "I missed meetings so I have power points to catch up on, there are still papers to sign, and I have a few phone calls to make." he replied deciding to stop after those reasons.
He walked further into the room and sat the diaper bag down, next to the dresser. There was a knock on the door and we both turned to see Caleb standing there. "What are you doing here?" Toby asked him.
Caleb walked over to me with his hands out and I obediently passed Kayden to him. "I'm just waiting for Hanna to finish packing." he said quietly.
Toby came to stand next to me, slipping his hands into the pockets of his jeans. "Is she moving in with you?" I asked him and he nodded in response,"I don't want her to be alone,"
He's just like Toby, I thought to myself. Both Caleb and Toby were over protective but at times Toby could get possessive, mostly when around big groups of people.
Caleb looked down at Kayden as he continued with a hidden smirk. "It's not like I gave her much of a choice."
"What did you do?" Toby asked holding back his amusement as well. The smirk he held had finally cracked open even wider,"I had all of her things moved to my house,"
The three of us laughed and Caleb returned Kayden to me once again. "I have to go, I'll see you on thanksgiving."
With that said he exited the room and I turned around, gently placing Kayden inside of the crib. I felt arms- preferably Toby's- snake around my waist.
Leaning up I tried turning but he held a firm grip around my waist, laying his chin on my shoulder. He hadn't said anything and I refused to be the first one to break the comfortable silence as I watched Kayden squirm around.
"Can you handle him on your own?" Toby asked after a while. I nodded,"Am I still your assistant?"
He chuckled,"Of course but I don't want you working until Kayden turns one,"
He let go of me and walked over to the closet, pulling it open to show case all of the clothes Marian and my mom had bought for the baby.
Grabbing footies, he made his way over to the crib and changed Kayden into it before laying him back down, taking time to admire our creation and all I could do in this moment wad smile.
Toby POV
As I continued to watch Kayden he began to drift off to sleep and it confused me more than it should have. "He's tired." I stated a bit unsure and Spencer must have sensed it.
"It's normal for him to be tired a lot." she explained and I nodded holding up my hands as if I was surrendering. "Well then we should let him sleep, I know your tired as well."
She shook her head, disagreeing with me. "I've had more than enough rest." she said, putting the pacifier inside of his mouth.
"Come here," I told her. She gave me a curious look but came over to me anyways. I kissed her deeply and after a moment she began to respond.
Her fingers ran through my hair, pulling gently as she put her emotions into the kiss. It was soft, passionate, and she was confused which made it uncanny.
If it was possible I managed to pull her even closer, moving down to her neck and stopping after I made my way up to her ear. "I'll be back later." I murmured huskily, feeling her shiver.
I let go of my grip on her and left the room, making my way down stairs. I knew that I had left her frustrated but we were to go no further than that.
Once I was in my office I called Caleb and he answered on the second ring. "It's going to be harder than I thought." he stated, getting straight to the point.
"What's going on?"
"The signals had disappeared but once Alison returned the signals had all came back," he explained. "Alison may or may not be part of this but as of right now I have to admit. . . it looks like an incident."
I shook my head in disappointment,"When the world found out about Spencer being pregnant that's when they disappeared right?"
He hummed in affirmation. "She had the baby, Alison returned and so did the signals what more information do we need- Alison is definitely A."
Caleb sighed into the phone, I could picture his face and he didn't look pleased by any of this either. "Have you given Spencer her phone back yet?" he asked me. I cocked a brow,"No it slipped my mind," I admitted opening up a drawer and grabbing it. "Why?"
I looked down at the screen and seen the answer for myself. "Apparently A had never left the girls alone so there's a chance Alison isn't the one."
I paused for a moment to scroll through all of the messages Spencer had been receiving but there was a specific one that caught my eye.
Don't be scared, Spence. We're all family here, some more than others. -A
"She hasn't had her phone for a while now so I don't think she's seen any of these messages," I admitted, continuing to scroll. "In her third month of pregnancy the messages started to get worse which is why I took it in the first place."
"We need to figure this out quick, I'll call you back when I get some more helpful information."
He hung up the phone and I say down in my chair doing nothing. I thought that I would be able to catch up on some things but my mind was now clouded with thoughts I was hardly able to keep up with myself.
As of right now it seemed as if Spencer's family held secrets that would lead us to what we're looking for but the only person that could have been of much help had skipped town leaving his daughter with an apology letter.
