Tyler and Josh were in a predicament. The last week of schools were filled with exam anxiety and silence between the two friends. Tyler didn't know if he should be the first person to open up a conversation or if she should just wait for Josh to open up a conversation. The days leading up to graduation were not fun and did not bring any resolution to the couple.
They were currently sitting in Tyler's car after their graduation in the parking lot of their school. Silence filled the air. They both didn't know what to say. Tyler took the first plunge. "So, what do we do?" He put his hand over Josh's in an act of solidarity and friendship. "I don't know, I don't know, I just don't know." Josh repeated.
"You don't have to like me back, just know that I like you and be my friend. The crush will go away, I'll meet someone new and we can go back to being friends." Josh pleaded, of course he wanted to be with Tyler but he also wanted Tyler to be happy even if that meant without him. "You've liked me for so long I don't think your crush on me will just go away so easily," Tyler looked completely uncomfortable but he was trying to be strong so they could solve this bump in their friendship.
"I'm not gay, Josh." Tyler proclaimed confidently. He thought about it but there was no way he liked Josh in that way. Josh moved his hand from under Tyler's. His worst nightmare was coming true. He was getting rejected but that's what he wanted right? Tyler's happiness over everything. That was Josh's motto.
"I am gay." That was the first time Josh said that out loud, he was proud of himself, he was gay and that was okay. Months of looking at coming out stories on Youtube had paid out. "I know." Tyler said and Josh cringed. Couldn't he have said something more comforting?
"Okay, so we're just friends and we'll continue to be friends?" Tyler confirmed and Josh nodded. Tyler smiled at Josh and Josh smiled back. They both knew inside that they were burying the problem instead of fixing it. Was there really anything else they could do? Everything was getting so difficult and Jenna was still in the picture and Tyler genuinely loved her and he loved Josh too but not in the same way.
